Business sense over pride

How rich would i be If I taught this to myself earlier in life. To use common sense when running a business instead of bragging about how you obtain success. Still don't understand? Let's dwell on this one then. When My aunt opened up a balloon/teddy bear shop, she was successful. She acquired the knowledge to put items inside balloons, then sold the items at an outstanding profit. One day, a man approached her and asked her about her suppliers. She explained to him how it was done, then proceeded to work in the shop. Two months later, the same man opened up the exact duplicate store, then ran her out of business. For me, lesson learned....until I coincided my business with Amazon. I accidentally did the same thing, and before I knew it, Amazon stole my inventory and connections. Now, I no longer have a store. I bragged to Amazon about how much I made, they contacted ALL my suppliers, then started selling the same items below my cost. Infuriated, yes, but I thought I had a partner. Family is no different, either. Bragging about my living expenses being paid for, my own brother coincided with a different music store and knocked my third music sore out of business. I didn't catch on at first, until my competition showed up at a family get-together. All-time heart-broken. I will never trust my loving family again. So, why am I writing this? I want those who seek fortune to understand that, bragging about what you accomplish in the business world is asking for a lot of heart ache. Run your business your way, but attend to your information, discard loose paperwork, (or at least put it up), and don't break your tight business circle. It could destroy what you built.

maybe your aunt thought it was an innocent, curious question so she answered sincerely, with no malice about the man's motives. same with you and amazon. as you said, you thought you had a partner. i think most of us think most people are inherently good.

You are right on the money! She thought he was just a curious sort. Funny hoe he set up shop just across the street when he used her ideas and suppliers.

I totally empathize with you. These are lessons all business people should be aware of from the start. While there are many good people in the world it is always wise to safeguard ourselves from the not so good. Thanks for sharing this tip.
