As a South Indian, most of the Time I got the habit of ordering South Indian Meals in Hotels. Recently, I had visited a Punjabi Dhaba (A North Indian Restaurant) where they serve only Vegetarian food . I generally prefer 'ROTI' in such Restaurants. After going through the menu I ordered two KULCHAS (A stuffed Veg. Roti) and I ordered 'Cashew butter spicy Masala" for the Curry. The waiter exclaimed "Two Kulchas?". I said "yes". When he prepared and put it on my table it looked great. After eating one Kulcha my stomach became full. I asked the waiter to make the remaining stuff for 'takeaway'. He smiled and said 'one kulcha is more for one person sir. It is equal to one South Indian Meals ". I returned home with the takeaway and had it for my breakfast. It was really a heavy stuff. After having my lunch there I felt some increase in my weight also and felt my muscles full of energy. After that, I stopped eating there. That stuff is meant for North Indians. We South Indians prefer only light food and feel comfortable and can be digested easily.

ThankQ. Interesting thing is that they use a lot of cheese, butter, and Ghee in their items along with lemon and onion. This makes their food very strong to digest. But, it will be very tasty. Very hard stuff.

I'd never really thought about regional variations. Here it's just all "Indian food." Or curry. Beyond things like Peshwari naans, there's no real indication as to what region it comes from. Heck, I don't even know if Peshwari naans are from that region!
