Depending on the kind of trails you will be walking on and the sort of distance you expect to cover, you should choose shoes or boots with good soles and a good grip and definitely with laced uppers. The ordinary trainer is not suitable for walking rough trails or for long distances. It is a good idea to choose boots which support the ankle. They should preferably be a half a size larger than your usual shoes because you should also wear thickish socks. You shouldn't try to walk any distance in new shoes. Leather shoes need to be 'worn in' for a week or two beforehand, if possible, otherwise you will find them uncomfortable and will be quite likely to get blisters. Shoes with canvas uppers don't take as long to wear in.

I would just get whatever shoes are best for hiking. Most hiking shoes that are good and available have laces and have very good support and grip to them.
