Delhi High Court verdict giving precedence to LG in Delhi

August 5, 2016 2:50am CST
Read the news about Delhi High Court judgment clarifying that LG is the real boss of Delhi and Delhi continues to be a Union Territory. If this be the case, then there should not be any elections held in Delhi because it is just akin to making a mockery of democracy and the mandate of the people of Delhi. If Delhi is a UT then only Central Govt. should run the Union Territory of Delhi and there should not be multiplicity of authorities as this multiplicity leads to dilution of accountability and ultimately the people of Delhi suffer. If an appointed official is given precedence over elected representatives of people, then where is the democracy?? As per the Delhi High Court, LG is not bound by the aid and advice of the Council of Ministers. However, the President of India is bound by the aid and advice of Council of Ministers in the Centre. The Delhi High Court verdict is one tight blow on the spirit of democracy.

@sheetgautam79,I welcome the decision.Hope,Kejriwal will now concentrate on what he was voted to power for.So far he has only wasted his time targeting the PM for everything.

Sir, Delhi Govt is powerless..AK has been voted to power de jure but he is powerless de facto. The real power as is evident by the Delhi High Court Verdict lies in the hands of Central Govt. nominated Lt. Governor. The LG is not bound by the aid and advice of the Council of Ministers of Delhi Assembly. Please have a look at the judgment.

Well AAP promised people that they will fight for full statehood of Delhi and that is what they are doing, nothing wrong in that, in-fact they should be appreciated for that. However full statehood can only be given through constitutional amendment , hence courts can hardly do anything in this matter. Courts give judgement based on existing laws.
