Office Space: Does Size Matter?

For most of the time, Rik and I rattle around in a four-bedroom, 2.5 bathroom house, occupying only one bedroom and bathroom. True, our daughter is with us at the moment, but that only accounts for one more bedroom and bathroom. Result? We each have our own study. Togetherness is great, but over-proximity does lead to too free an exchange of opinions. This is particularly true when one person is pathologically tidy (Rik, take note!) and the other – well, shall we say creative about the placement of her belongings?
Rik has the tiny fourth bedroom/box room for his study. I have one of the large double bedrooms at the front of the house. On the face of it, this sounds unfair to Rik. However, there is one piece of furniture in my study that does make rather a difference: a bed. No problem most of the time – in fact I use it as extra sorting-out space when I’ve used up all the space on my desk. The problem arises when we have guests. If there are two of them, my daughter moves in here: if there’s only one, the guest moves in. Result? I can’t get at my PC and other office materials.
It’s been great to have my mother with us for the past few days. What hasn’t been so great has been trying to keep up with you, my friends, on my tablets, neither of which I’m very good at driving, and not being able to play The Sims.
Now, PC games, particularly life simulation ones like The Sims in its four forms, are an irrelevance to those who don’t play them, and a way of life to those who do. I admit it: My name is Viv, and I’m a Sims 1, 2, 3 and 4 addict! (Did I swear that I wouldn’t get hooked on Sims 4? Alas, I am forsworn!) I can’t play these games on my tablets. More to the point, as I’m a touch typist, with fingers that know where the letters on a keyboard are and eyes that don’t, I can’t write posts when I don’t have access to my PC – and Rik’s not sharing!
So, here I am, sorry to have said goodbye to my mother today, but luxuriating in the fact that I have my study back!
What about the rest of you? Do you have to share office space? And, who do you think is the lucky one: Rik, having a small study all to himself; or me, having a big study that I have to give up every so often?

We have four bedrooms too, but I've never thought of using one of the spares as an office. I only have a laptop so I don't need one - I just sit in my armchair keeping my husband company while he watches the TV. He doesn't use a computer and doesn't need an office either.
I think that Rik has the better deal - I'd hate not to be able to get at my computer.

It does annoy me sometimes, Janet - especially since he hides up there from visitors who are for him as much as for me! However, he's definitely IT king in this house, and I yell for him whenever something goes wrong with my set-up, so I guess he deserves some perks!

I'm thinking of permanently turning the spare room upstairs into an office. Certainly helps when you can't sleep. Hubby could use the office space that is only big enough for one person... and hello from another addicted Sims player ;)
