Reading difficulty due to my cataract operation

Since having my cataract operation on Tuesday, I am no longer able to use my prescription glasses. This was not too big a problem after the first operation because I could use the lens for the left eye, but now I have neither. The appointment for the assessment of how well the operation has gone is not scheduled until 20th September, so I will be unable to have an eye test for new glasses until after that date. My overall vision is quite adequate, but reading Mylot discussions was a complete no. It is imperative that I am able to read my mail, otherwise I would not be able to pay whatever bills arrive. Not paying bills for over 6 weeks would cause drastic problems, so today I went out and bought a basic pair of reading glasses from a cheap store. Even though I am now back at Mylot, I shall not spend too much time online because that would possibly cause eye strain. However, I will be around most days, even though for limited periods. Disclaimer: No keyboard keys were harmed during the typing of this discussion.

This is a real complaint of everyone waiting for cataract surgery. And it's no fun. I hope the time goes by quickly for you!

It should pass within reason as long as no problems occur to delay the process.

Barry, I hope you recover quickly from your eye surgery, and that your eyes are as good as new! It's not the same without you here in myLot, so please hurry back! {but take care of your eyes first!}

My problem at present is not the quality of my eyesight but the lack of prescription glasses. Until I get the all clear from the Eye Hospital the possibility exists for further treatment, which would change the actual prescription lenses required.

@moffittjc No chance of that Jeff. I rarely read the rubbish that you write anyway.

Everything is fine so far Arthur, but I still require prescription glasses. Once I get the all clear I can arrange them.

I am glad that you took good care of the keyboard keys. Take care of your eyes and do not stare at the screen too long.

@Asylum I think that your eyes deserve even more respect, you can always replace your previous keyboard, but not your precious eyes.

Congrats on finally getting the second op under your belt... Time to use the big screen for a while, no tablet or laptop screen to strain yourself peering at...

My computer has a 23 inch monitor, but to read Mylot text without glasses would require the browser magnification set at 250%.

@pgntwo Prior to the operation it was set at 125%, so hopefully once I have new glasses I can set it to 100%.

The writing on your postcards was large and easy to read. I see the reason now! What will you do with all your free time? You must be close to your quota of travel days.

I began writing in block capitals back in the 1960s because I had a few jobs that required filling forms all day. All that I tend to handwrite these days is my signature.

@Jeanniemaries It is not uncommon for people to have poor handwriting. When we first learn we take care, but in time we revert to writing quickly.

@Asylum And quite handy that is for reading. My handwriting is atrocious. My thoughts run faster than I can write and I struggle to keep up with it. I forget all about being neat.

@celticeagle Not until the Eye Hospital confirm that the treatment is over, otherwise I would be ordering glasses and my vision would change.

My problem is that I required prescription glasses prior to the cataracts developing, which became stronger as the cataracts developed. Now that both eyes have had the cataracts removed I require new glasses, but cannot apply for any until after the assessment on my eyes. I cannot use the old glasses because the lenses would be totally wrong now, so until I acquire new ones I have serious reading issues.

Can you just make the print on your screen larger to lessen the strain? I am glad you are done with both eyes, however. . I got the postcard from Wales, thank you so much. I wish you would PM me your address so I could at least send you one!! I promise not to stalk!!

I can amend the screen resolution but that would only work for the computer and not for bills in the post. If you have only had one postcard from Wales then there should be another in the post. I sent postcards from Llandudno and also from Conwy.

@BelleStarr That means that the Llandudno one is still in transit, which is odd because that was posted first. If I remember correctly the 'Par Avion' labels were in Welsh.

I'm glad that you were able to get the cataract surgery. Sorry to hear that your prescription glasses no longer work. I don't know what I would do if something happened to mine as I am blind as a bad. I hope the reading glasses work well for you.

What a bother! But better than having no vision at all, I think. Because I can think of nothing else for it, I'm lighting candles and sending up smoke for your vision to improve daily.

Obviously, the vision is very important and more if you are used to see well enough to do your work on your own every day. Hopefully, you'll get it sorted out soon. Until the th of September is still a long time, so please take care of your eyes. Eye operations always run under a risk and you have to rest properly afterwards.

@Asylum That's normal to be inquiet. Even if we don't recognize our fears, the risk to loose our visibility is a always in our mind.

An eye doctor told me a month ago that I should use very good light to read. I can read fairly well with sunlight. But bad light turns me almost bling, as reading goes.

I am pleased you have had the other eye done. Once you have had your final test you will now be able to go on holiday. Did I just say holiday? Those cheap glasses are brilliant to tide you over until you can get a proper pair made. Hope all is well with you!
