I Have A Bed...

It has been two years since I had an actual bed to sleep on. When I lost all my belongings, I ended up sleeping in my car for one year and ten months. It was a hard life. The winters were bitter cold, and the summers were unbearable at times.
The times when I was not sleeping in my car, I was usually sleeping on someone's couch, and/or air mattress. On a rare occasion, I would have an actual bed to sleep on.
I have been sleeping on an air mattress for months now, because I could not afford to get a bed. It was okay, until I had surgery for my heart. Then the air mattress developed this air pocket, that went from one end of the mattress to the other, creating an uneven lump. Even though it was still soft, it started to give me back and neck problems.
I would sometimes wake up with my back and neck, in extreme pain. Plus...because the mattress was so low to the ground, it made it difficult for me to get out of bed.
I would sometimes just lie on the air mattress and cry, because there was nothing I could do to get comfortable, and thus could not fall asleep many times, until daybreak.
Well today... I was blessed. A Catholic charity brought me an actual bed, with a frame, spring box, and a mattress. They actually wanted to hold off until next week, because some brand new mattresses and spring boxes, were being donated to them this coming weekend, but felt that it would be better for my back and neck, if I slept on this temporary one, until the new ones arrived.
The ones they gave me were different sizes, and they did not realize it until they delivered them to me. The spring box is 4 inches longer than the mattress, and they want me to have something better. So next Tuesday, I will be getting a brand new set.
On top of that...they included a set of light lavendar sheets and pillow case, with diamond embroidery on the ends. They knew that I did not have any bed sheets, since I lost everything.
I haven't had a bed in so long, I don't remember them standing up this high. My feet dangle off the bed, like I was this little kid. LOL
However, tonight folks...my back and neck are going to be in heaven. I have an actual bed to sleep on, and I can't be more grateful.

I am so happy for you! My bed broke, my old bed that had belonged to my Nana, and she has been gone many years. The frame broke into actual splinters in some places. And I need a new mattress. But I tell you, reading your story, I feel LUCKY to have this broken bed. Heck, I can save for another. I'm so glad you got your bed! And lavender sounds lovely!

I can't imagine not having a bed. I've slept on floors when I went to parties but sleeping in a car in hot or cold temperatures must be awful. Enjoy your rest in your real bed.

I am quite glad for you! We had to live in a small camper for a few years, no working stove, no working fridge, you learn to appreciate the small things, and I am so glad you have a bed!

I think that you finally got a bed of your own makes your self-esteem fill much better. I too have been without a bed
for about six months until I too got the help. Living on the streets or in a car is a real rough way to live. I hope you will be able to restore all of things which you lost. I am glad you can have a night to sleep with no pain and no worries.

sleeping is very important. It is needed to regain your energy lost. Early to bed and early to rise is the principle.
