Stranded at work today

Not really looking forward to my day. I know I can do myLot from my work place but I don't really want to spend that many hours more than my shift there.
My oldest has an important appointment in Moncton. We will be talking to his psychiatrist about reducing his medication (his schizophrenia has shown a great deal of improvement). They are also discussing how his future should be proceeding. They would like him to move to Moncton for support there. We don't like the idea for a number of reasons which I don't want to get into. We have an alternative that is closer to home and now that the twins have a better work situation should be workable. We're hoping for a positive meeting.
Outside of that looks like a pretty good day ahead.

The meds do have negative side effects. He has been slowly reduced over time. He's getting substantially less than he was before.

There is an outside chance he might not need medication for his whole life. I hope he continues to progress well.

@koopharper I agree that your support and his efforts are probably what has caused his improvement. Getting a doctor to understand that would be difficult but maybe not impossible.
As a parent too, I understand your concern. The "system" wherever it is, can't really see the same thing as someone in close association with the patient, especially in cases like this. It's heart breaking to see him at the mercy of the government.

Now that the meeting is history, I get the impression that the psychiatrist thinks that the medication is necessary for life and that it is the sole reason for all of my son's improvement. I think our familial support and Sheldon's own effort to learn and better his situation have been just as important.
I worry as a parent because I have met others that have similar mental issues and in most cases I see they get given medication and basics for surviving on their own but they are left at that point. Sheldon is far too intelligent to just get shunted off somewhere.

@peavey As long as we're able to see him regularly and work with him, I think he is going to continue to improve and work to make something of himself. Rooming with his brothers in town here is by far the better option in my view.

hope it is not as bad as you think. I often think things will be worse then they turn out

I think the alternative would be much better because it's closer to home.
Hope you have a wonderful day ahead of you.

@toniganzon Looks like we'll be able to keep him close enough. The psychiatrist didn't agree with everything but the big guy doesn't have to go alone to Moncton.

I hope your children can live closer to you. Family support is always needed, specially if we have any ailment.

We told him at the start of all this that we would never abandon him like happens to some people in this situation. We could not regularly visit him in Moncton. None of us like the idea. Thankfully I don't think it is the only option. Moving into an apartment with his brothers in town here would work far better. Better employment for the twins may make that all possible.

Planning on it. Just concerned about the appointment. My wife is quite capable but I hate having this all on her plate. Generally speaking I am far less likely to get pushed around.

Working with government agencies has always been dicey. They seem to somehow believe we always have a lot more money than we do and I hate battling bureaucracy all the time.
