When There's No Water In The Kitchen

A few nights ago, I discovered a leak under the kitchen sink when I heard dripping water even though the faucet was shut. I texted the plumber the next day, but he's not yet available.
Since then, we only open the gate valve under the sink when it's time to cook and shut it off after cleaning up the kitchen. A plastic basin catches the drips during that time.
The rest of the time, we use the water from 3 pitchers that we fill and refill and put next to the sink. (2 are metal, 1 plastic, all with lids).
I find them easier to use and less messy than using a bucket and plastic scooper. Others use big empty softdrink bottles or put a picnic jug with a spigot.
What's your temporary solution when there's no water from the kitchen faucet?

Just like you , the faucet at our kitchen sink cannot be closed tightly , so every night , we close it . We fill a pail by the kitchen sink's floor when we do that . Though you are right it can get messy because when we dip it cannot be helped that sometimes there would be spills on the floor .

that's why when i thought about using pitchers, we never used the pail again. you also don't have to bend down anymore to scoop water since you can put pitchers right there next to the sink.

We currently don't have a kitchen faucet or sink installed in the kitchen. We have a hand pump for water. I'm hoping to change all that before winter.

@koopharper does it have hot and cold water? i mean isn't handwashing difficult during the winter months?

the water pressure is still low here, so we're still lucky compared to other areas. i hope you have enough containers and the maintenance work will not take too long.

One time it happened to us, too. 2 days before it was fixed and 2 days of MacDos and take-out foods from our favorite Asian restaurant.

i think the rich people stay in hotels when there's water and power interruption.
we're quite lucky we never totally lost water, just low water pressure until now.

@hereandthere we had to turn our water off the last time outside. so there was lots of running outside to the yard, flipping it on, showering as fast as you could, refilling everything, and running back outside, then in the mud because that's where the leak was, and turning it off, then trying to clean off the mud with a cloth and bucket, lol

I never experience that because every time our faucet is destroyed or has leaks, my husband immediately repair it. Good thing he knows plumbing works.

i feel a greater sense of loss when water is wasted than a light bulb left on from morning to night.

I call the plumber. LOL can't stay that long without water in the faucet. But for a short time I might use some of the mineral water we have delivered for drinking.
In the province we have this kind of problem so we have really big containers used for storing water.

because this plumber is so "in-demand" he never runs out of '"contracts." hahaha! but i'll definitely text him again tomorrow.
we also have an outside sink, so that helps.
we also have a big container at the back of the house always filled with water next to the washing machine.

I had that very same thing happen to me a few years ago, and when I called around to try and get a plumber, they either weren't available or they wanted to charge astronomical fees. So I ended up going to Home Depot, found an employee in their plumbing department that actually knew what he was talking about, and he walked me through all the steps to fix the sink. I think bought the supplies I needed, and then went home and fixed the sink myself.
