(The above is a quote from Terry Pratchett’s Granny Weatherwax, to those who don’t know.) In my case, it’s not my demise that’s caused my absence for the last few days. It’s a completely unexpected obsession with the Olympics. I feel a bit like Muttley – never enough medals! Oh, well – I can’t win any myself, so I might as well enjoy everyone else’s success. I’m enjoying the warm weather, too, and the company of my daughter. We’re going out walking quite a lot, although I certainly don’t rival her 10,000 steps a day. I can manage it occasionally (in fact I think I did today) but not as a regular performance! We’re also getting all packed up for our holiday. We’re off to Cyprus in September, and I keep thinking of more essentials I have to buy. It was reading sunglasses today but, as Rik and I have different definitions of “essential”, I probably shan’t get them. Anyway, this is just to let you all know that I’m still around. I’m just being lazy and not writing as much as I should! Here’s hoping that I get round to starting a new discussion tomorrow. Do you find that warmer weather makes you feel lazy?

Not really - I'm lazy all the time! Aren't the Olympics great, especially now we're doing so well?

@Vivenda Aren't we still 2nd? I haven't been watching for the last couple of hours, but the medals seemed to be coming in very nicely.

@jaboUK We had a minor blip as I was writing this, Janet, and then recovered. As I write now, we are indeed in second place. Can we stay there? We shall see...

I think it's the novelty value, Janet - especially as, for a brief period today, we ranked second!

I spotted the Granny Weatherwax quote! Travel light, but what you need when you get there I'd my advice. Sunny weather and lazy days, yup, know that scene.

@Vivenda Gytha Ogg, now that's a pretty good role model. Not sure who I'd choose, perhaps a bit of Moist von Lipwig and... I have to think about it. Tell your son he has no Golem to carry his rucksack and schtuff.. :)

Nanny Ogg is my real role model, but Granny Weatherwax had some good lines, too! Yes, I'm probably going to follow that advice. The real trick is probably going to be to convince my son, who always packs for a trek march, a) to take a case rather than a rucksack and b) to resist the temptation to pack the kitchen sink!

I sometimes get sleepy in the afternoons, Patsie - and I'ms sure it's not as hot here as it is where you are!

Perhaps the fact that I was out in the garden late at night, drinking and chatting with my daughter, has something to do with it!

It's the cold and rainy weather that makes me lazy at times.

It only makes me lazy when I have to stay inside!
