Two days off!

I love when you get half way through the year and find out that you had a ton of Holiday and vacation days that you still haven't scheduled! It's like a fairy tale for me. I get to spend the last day of summer break with my daughter and then get her first day of school off. Yay! Am I the only one who has found mystery vacation days?

I earn about 8 weeks of vacation each year with my company, plus I get an extra week on top of that for being in upper management. However, in my line of work it is very hard for me to take off extended periods of time, so I don't really ever use my leave time. Plus, since I'm a salaried employee, I pretty much just flex my schedule anytime I need to take time off. I do take a 2-week vacation every year at Christmas, which is nice, but otherwise that time just builds and builds. Anyway, that extra week of leave time I mentioned above I get for being a manager, there is time limits of when those 40 hours have to be used. It expires on September 30th of every year, which is the end of our fiscal year, so we are mandated to use the up before then. Of course, all us managers always forget we have it, and then when September hits we are all scrambling to use up that time! lol

@ageekmommy My employer used to be so hung up on employees being at their offices during "business hours." For years, I have been arguing that at least half of my workload can be done at home, away from distractions, making me an even more productive employee. Over time, they have softened their stance, and now let us occasionally work from home. I figure that, over time, they will continue to relax the polices and allow employees the flexibility to spend even more time working from home, or working flexible hours. As I always say, as long as the work gets done, who cares what location you're in!

I wish I could flex my time all the time. In theory I should be because well, the job is not dependent on what hours I work and when just that I get the job done.

I'm saving my vacation leaves for the last quarter of the year as well. I want to go on a short vacation on my birthday and have an extended holiday vacation! Good for you my friend on your added vacation days!

I usually do the same thing to be honest. I have two weeks of holidays, so I will be booking off October 18th-25th to go on vacation and not sure about the other week what to do.

Yes, that used to happen to me all the time. I'd reach a certain point and be told I had to take some personal days off. That was always fine with me too, LOL. I'm glad you get these two days, congrats!

I haven't taken any vacation days this year so I am planning to take a few over the next few weeks. I want to take my grand daughter on one last camping trip before she has to go back to school. I will still have a few weeks left so I will probably just save them and take them at Christmas time. Enjoy your vacation days with your daughter.

I wish I could take them around Christmas. I work in Fraud investigations and Christmas is a very busy time for us!

I'm usually aware of my vacation days all year long... No mystery or surprise ones for me, unfortunately...
