You can search for this topic and find a zillion tips and tricks and advice, all pretty much saying the same thing. The main thing is "Don't give up!" Cause that's what usually happens. People don't see the monetary results they were hoping for in the time they had hoped for so they abandon ship.
What has actually helped me is joining communities like myLot. You can actually turn your writings here into a blogging initiative. Literacy Base is another site where you can try your hand. Find a community that is accepting members and if it's free sign up.
You could publish a stand alone blog, but the communities usually already have traffic getting to the site. When I first started, my blogs were not published as a part of a community. It was very discouraging but I also learned from my mistakes. A few years ago these online networks start cropping up and joining them has been a rewarding experience.

Try to get traffic on your blog. Share the URL on your social websites and blog promoting websites. Once you will start having fair enough traffic, your blog will earn for you.
