How Can You Forget You Put a Gun in Your Carry-on Luggage?

The other evening, our local news did a story on the number of guns that TSA continues to find in carry-on luggage at U.S. airports. They said that most of the people, when confronted, claim that they "forgot" the gun was there. Really? Does the TSA actually fall for that line? In 2015, the TSA found 2,442 guns in carry-on luggage in U.S. airports. Over the week of August 5 - 11, 2016, according to the TSA blog, they discovered a record 78 firearms in carry-on bags and 68 of them were loaded. Twenty-one of them had rounds in the chamber! You can go to "blog. tsa. gov" to see photos of the actual guns that were confiscated in the past week. They also found some replica grenades. Even though they weren't real, they did create problems at the airports where they were found. In addition, they found a sword, as well as a knife inside a pill bottle. These idiots need to know they can be arrested and fined up to $11,000 for trying to smuggle these items onto a plane. I think that is fair. After all, there is absolutely no way I can believe that dozens of people a week "forget" they have packed these items ... and put a round in the chamber! Do they all have dementia??

There is no way they forgot, in my opinion. They are trying to get away with something and I hope they all get caught. The fine is fair, but should be accompanied with jail time and a ban on flying for a year or more.

@DeborahDiane I would question their continuing right to be armed.

@ElizabethWallace - Ha Ha! Well said! If they do something that demented, they are probably mentally ill!

No, but if the TSA does not fine then, then they do. By the way, I was sent straight through each security check on my trip yet again. I really must look harmless to people.

I don't see how they would forget. But the fake ones I can see that especially if you go to a gift store while on a trip.

@JamesHxstatic - You are right that we should be careful about anything we pack ... including toys.

What a stupid alibi! They could have concocted a better one.

@rina110383 - I think these people were intentionally trying to bring along a weapon and they got caught. Every one of them should be severely fined.

This is a very vague alibi to make. Are they imprisoned for that thing?

They can be imprisoned, although most of them are not because the TSA believes that it is usually done accidentally. Seems hard for me to believe.

No, I do not believe they have dementia, but they are surely stupid.

@DeborahDiane I agree, I can understand that someone can forget an object, but a weapon sounds incredible. It is true that some people claimed that they "forgot" their children in the car, I have never understood how this is possible.

@LadyDuck - I completely agree with you answer. People who do this must be stupid if they don't have dementia. People who are that negligent are too irresponsible to have loaded weapons, because they might also leave them where children or the mentally ill could get to them.

@LadyDuck - I'm shocked that so many children have been left in cars. It seems to happen every week here in the US and the results are so tragic.

I don't think that they are forgetting that. In our country it is a serious fault and should be sentenced in jail.

@just4him - It does seem as if there are a lot of people in the world who do not deserve to be trusted. However, I feel that the majority of people are trustworthy most of the time.
