The Dragon Snack

Philippines
August 17, 2016 2:23am CST
For the nth time I forgot the time and wasn't able to eat my lunch. Now I'm kinda hungry and good that the fruit vendor arrived on time to deliver the fruits I ordered. This is the first time I'm going to taste a "dragon fruit" or commonly known as pitaya. This one looks amazing, I expected to see white meat but I got a red one. Tasted it and... it tastes just like a papaya. I bet this will be much tastier when chilled. Still it's good and they say it got lots of health benefits. It's actually from the cactus family.. I gathered some seeds and plan to plant them in a pot tomorrow..

@carexing25 How do you plant the seeds? Is it a huge tree like mango tree?

Oh no dear, it would take time to grow pitaya from seeds, just ask the vendor for a branch for you to plant. Anyway, the branch easily grows and after one or two years, it will already yield a fruit.

This kind of fruit is common here. I heard that the red one is much more tasteful than the white one. It is sweeter.

I wonder what vitamins this fruit has, i bet it's expensive. I remember my elder aunt always requesting a fruit similar to that.
