Favorite Bands Fronted by Women #9 - Elastica

In the 1990s, bands fronted by females were quite popular in Britain, judging by how many there were. which brings us to number 9 in my Favorite Bands Fronted by Women series, Elastica. Led by voalist/guitarist Justine Frischman and drummer Justin Welch, alternative band Elastica formed in 1992 in London. Their 1995 self-titled debut sold so quickly that it debuted at #1 in the UK (it reached #66 on the Billboard 200,) and spawned several singles, and is a Certified Gold record. It is also listed in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. Unfortunately, the band was also sued for lifting guitar parts from the band Wire. Despite such a lofty beginning, the group managed just one more album before folding. I found Elastica the way that music is supposed to work: I heard a song on the radio ("Connection,") and investigated further. I liked what I heard, and became a fan (of the band, not just the single.) There is, of course, more to Elastica than "Connection," but that's where it started for me. Enjoy! Connection is used all the time as instrumental background music on TV shows in the UK, helped, I am sure, by its great intro.. She was in the band Suede before Elastica and was the partner of Damon Albarn of Blur.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention Suede. According to Wikipedia, she's married now, living in California.

I didn't know the song at all. The name Elastica sounds vaguely familiar. Frischman has an 80s voice.
