“If the bee disappeared off the face of the earth, man would only have four years left to live.”
~ Maurice Maeterlinck
Yesterday afternoon the Bee-keeper arrived to collect the NEST of Bee's . . . called that as they have shacked up in a woodpeckers nest up high in one of our winter barren trees in the garden. Featured in my post "Bee Cause"
Unfortunately he could not remove them as his BIN was not big enough for the nest, so he will be returning this afternoon to try his hand at the removal and relocation thing again.
@JadePlatypus asked me the question if there were any flowers in the vicinity that might be the attraction and I decided to take a walk in the garden and show you all with a lovely compiled collage of my photos.
Yes there are plenty of blooms in the garden in the evergreen shrubbery and flower beds under the barren winter trees, and probably enough for the bees to sustain their need for pollen and moisture.
Other than the Black-Eyed Susan's, ground covering Periwinkle's, blooming violets, honeysuckle, and my bushes of lavender - there are also the pansies, trumpet honeysuckle that the birds love, orange jasmine, cat's claw, and some winter daisies - all which are in bloom.
Almost like a buffet of pollen waiting for them to enjoy - I do hope that the Bee's get a nice new home and garden to enjoy as they have been doing in mine over the last week.
“We are bees then; our honey is language.”
~ Robert Bly

I stopped using flowers ages ago. I don't even offer them in temples or birthdays or for any reason. I find it mean to be denying bees a source of their food. A few flowers is ok. But folks use them on walls and decorate their homes! I find that weird...especially in our marriages..they do it to their own future generations!
