The Internet

Okay, we have now lived with the internet since the mid 90's. We all have seen how the internet has grown. But, where is the internet going? Think about this for a moment. We were at awe with all this new technology when it started, but now it is common place. We live our life according to the internet, social media and everything related to it.
It now has become part of our everyday life. But where will the internet be in at least say 10 years or 20 years from now. Will it morph into something beyond our imagination, or will it just progress with little steps. I think, personally, that it is going to grow bigger and more wonderful than what we currently have, use or know about it. I foresee hologram computers.
Imagine, computers that do not have screens, no big boxes. Maybe something like a little pod on a desk. And the pod would project these 3D holograms up from it creating a virtual screen with the images for us to use. We might have keyboards maybe not. More likely I see either a virtual keyboard or glove that we touch the images or just our fingers. Instead of touching or tapping a screen as we do now. Let me know where you think the internet will be in the future.

We'll come back to this post in twenty years and discuss what's occurred! Maybe telepathically. :)

I'm thinking our lives will change drastically in the near future, not just the internet. We humans will have little to do every day. We can stay in bed, tell our car to take the kids to school or soccer, tell the drones to deliver our groceries, tell the robot to make dinner, etc., and we'll only have to tell them once and they'll be programmed. We are quickly becoming totally obsolete beings.

That seems a little extreme to me. To be that lazy is not real productive. And even though we don't know if aliens exist, lets say they do for the sake of this post. If they exist, and the stories we heard about aliens, they do not have robots do things for them. They are active as well. But very advanced in technology. Having technology as an aid is okay, but to have it do everything for us is not very good. We do need to have input in this world.

@inertia4 I agree with you. I don't think it bodes well for a healthy life style. One major concern with all the technology advancements, such as robots and drones, is taking away even more jobs from people, and we don't have enough jobs now. That's what I meant by humans becoming obsolete.

@LindaCPearson That is one reason why. But that is a small percentage overall. Sadly greed runs this country and we are not looked at as anything special except workhorses.

I remembered being introduced to the internet in the 90's and it rocked my world. I am addicted now and I get out of sorts when I don't have it around. I agree with how it will be in the future. I see many more advances along the lines you are speaking of. I just hope that it does not get too expensive for the average jo or jane.

Maybe the cyberpunk visions of William Gibson will prove prophetic and we will be able to literally jack our brains into the internet through usb ports in our necks

I remember getting my first email account in 98ish, a friend made it for me, I thought it was a fad and dumb, and who'd ever use the net that much or for that? LOL

@inertia4 Is it a great wonder? I mean, of course it is, but essentially is it good? Have we reached the point where technology is so entrenched in our very existence that to take it away would cause us great harm?

Our have hi there nail on the head. I was wondering myself about where the internet COULD go. I was thinking like star trek. I was thinking if you want a cup of a cup of English tea, you dial it up other ask it to fix it for you and it will bee delicious. The machine would look like a microwave oven and it does what you a ask it to.

Beyond the computer, internet and social media? I'd probably die an old man or other disasters then.

It's mind boggling to think what advances might take place with the Internet over the next 10 or 20 years.
