Are You a Smoker or Non-Smoker?

Virginia, which is where I live, is still a huge producer of tobacco products, mainly cigarettes, and there are still many tobacco plants here. Sometimes you can actually smell the tobacco odor that fills the air around Richmond, the capital.
Kentucky also produces a lot of tobacco products. The amount is in the 400 millions of pounds range, I understand. However, since all the “bad” news about the dangers of smoking and chewing tobacco has been brought to everyone’s attention, some tobacco farmers have decided to grow something else on their land.
Whether a person chooses to smoke or not smoke is a personal decision, of course, but now there are few public buildings where smoking is still allowed by law.
The debate rages on about “rights to smoke” as everyone knows, but the story that made me really sit up and take notice was about a young man who had NEVER smoked himself, but who had grown up with parents who both smoked in the house and in the car. He died of lung cancer when he was just in his twenties. He lived near me.
My husband nor I smoke any kind of tobacco or other product, and neither do any of my children. I have ONE grandson who smokes cigarettes and possibly other products. He is in his thirties and has frequent health problems.
I know it’s an ongoing debate, but what do you think?

That is really a debate, here in my place, students in schools are forbiddent to smoke, of course, it is for their good health. But the truth is some students try hard to smoke in order not to get caught by the teachers , they smoke in the toilet,in the dorm during the break or after school. who knows the real reason?
But I am a non-smoker,not because it does harm to health, but because I didnt fall in love with it in the first place.

Yes, I don't know how people get past their first try at smoking. It's really a very bad experience, I understand. You should be very happy that you "didn't fall in love with it in the first place." I LIKE that description.

@efanxing I really hate to think how many deaths could have been prevented if persons had not chosen to smoke. Prevention is the answer, you're right about that.

That's a great idea. Smoking is so harmful, so making people aware of the dangers is a very SMART thing to do. Good for you.

Good for you! Smoking is not the wise thing to do. Many are quitting and that's a GOOD thing.

Good for you! I'm hoping that more and more persons will stop smoking and that young people will never start smoking.

I never tried smoking any product and I would never intend to try one in the future.

Good for you. I really don't understand how people get started with smoking.
