Not a very good day for the wallet. Our central air conditioning system just went on the blink. It was 26 years old, so R.I.P. little machine, you served us well! Meanwhile, we are sweating here as we are not used to be in a house so hot. The weather today is very, very hot and sunny. I just hope that we won't have to wait too long for the installation of the new system. We are too old for that, or so we think!

We have already ordered the new system and put down the required down payment. Not good to get overheated at our age and with health problems.

@silvermist I hope that the new A/C lasts as long as our old one of 26 years.

Didn't you just replace your heating too? Or am I thinking of someone else? 26 years - you got your money's worth out of it for sure.

One reason I am glad to live where you seldom need A/C. Another expense saved!

Surely, even in England there must be some days where the A/C would be more than welcome!

Hopefully you manage to get it fixed. It's not always easy. There's always something that you need to get, or fix.

Hopefully, the hot weather will prompt a quick replacement. 26 years is a good life for AC

We have no A/C, we have the habit to feel the heat on the upper floor during a few days in summer. I hope you can have your new system soon.

@marlina This year we hat two hot nights during the whole summer. The main floor of the house is never hot, there are between 24 to 26 degrees Celsius in Summer, that is pretty good.

So sorry you lost your air conditioner. we have one in our bedroom that's it. We have a cottage that we live in and there's a huge tree that covers most of the roof and so the cottage remains cool much of the time. But when I exercise O boy could I ever use ac. I hope you don't have to wait too long for your new one. When the mornings are cool we open all the windows until it begins to warm up then we shut everything up and put the fans on. Today is a raining day and its quite cool. I actually have long jogging pants and a long sleeve shirt and a jacket on and I'm comfortable believe it or not!

I know exactly what you mean @marlina . My system went down in 2011 when there was 37 straight days of over 100 degrees. Thankfully I had a friend that loaned me 2 window units until I could have the system replaced.

I have been there and done that. When that happened to me years ago, I went out and purchased a window unit for one room in the house where I spent the most time. I even slept there. It really did wonders until the other one, got fixed. And going forward, when it really got hot. I would turn it on even with the main unit on, and to my surprise, it kept the electrib bill down. The small unit kept it cool enough, where the main unit did not have to work so hard. Anyway... Here is a penny for my thoughts.

I am sure you will miss the comfort while you wait. Be sure to take measures to stay cool until the new one is in. I imagine the new one will be more efficient and that you will save on monthly bills so that should help in the long run.

Oh that's a shame that it went on out on you, even though 26 years is a long run. I hope that you're able to manage in between getting a new system installed.
