Finding a better way to organize the toys

I have made our master bedroom as the children's play room, as we are sleeping in another bedroom. I also ask the children to play in the play room as much as possible, so their toys won't be all around the house, especially the living room.
I have been trying hard to minimize and organize the toys and also get the children to pick up the toys, but it just doesn't seem to work out nicely. I have thought of locking the play room, and I am sure the children can still find things to do throughout the whole day, but I just do not feel like being the joy killer always.
I can't really blame the children for not very helpful in picking up the toys, as there is really very messy after they have played for the whole day usually and we do not have a good "toy picking up system" yet. I am thinking how I can set up a better way to organize the toys, so the children can learn to pick up toys on their own, or spend lesser time with my help.
I feel tired keep cleaning, picking up and organizing things now. Perhaps it's my nature to be messy, and the kids just pick up my bad habit, though I like to organize things actually. I am glad I have been keeping calm and not scolding my children, but I just feel tired and know that I really need to find a solution for this.
If you have kids at home, how do you organize the toys? Or is there any "toys system" in your house that helps?
Sorry for my venting. I feel better now, and it's time to go to the park!

I don't have kids.
At my parents' place, all toys of my nephews are kept in one room. It was like a storage room.

@kaka135 No. They are messy kids. The helper only displays few toys in their room. The rest are kept inside the storage room.
They scatter cut papers, crayons, pencils, etc.

This is always a headache for me Usually I put the toys into the large plastic storage boxes and that's all for me. When my child grows up, I will give some toys which are not suitable for him any more to other children. So it seems I will make our home less messy

I feel you..and i thought thats normal when you got kids. I mean, you got the house clean and in just seconds all the toys are out and are all over the place. I put their toys in storage boxes.and yep, they still find and play with it.. One time i threaten them and put the toys near the garbage can and told them that will happen if they wont return it back to its place.. It works for awhile..but now we are back to keep reminding them to put it back where they got them.

Children have to be taught and then that teaching must bring reinforced and then further reinforced.

What about putting a timer on for say 5 minutes where they put away as many toys as they can before the bell goes. Or 'no TV till the toys are away'. Can you cope with the playroom being a bit messy if all the other toys are taken there at the end of the day? I guess it's never going to be easy. Good luck.
