Why do most embalmers put makeup on the "clients" to disguise natural markings?

I've noticed that most embalmers apply way too much make up on the dead to hide markings such as warts and moles or birth marks. Were'nt these things a part of the persons appearance for their whole life? Wouldn't the family want to see them how they were in life? This is the main reason for embalming a body in the first place, isn't it?

I haven't heard of them using it just to cover markings but maybe while trying to disguise the pallor of a decomposing body they have to cover the markings as well.

well, when i went to school i learned much of the same stuff that makeup artists learn. color wheels , air brushing on human skin ect. it is possible to use these skills.
i think it is that most embalmers that do apply makeup are males and unless they are gay the probablly dont have a clue.

well... they are not artists and I guess it would be hard to make the body look like the person it once was with the materials you have available.

yeah, in college my teacher was teaching us about it. he said that the newer embalmers must focus more on what the fam wants and how they dont like so much makeup these days.
