Stay out of the water

Many people are here in Florida and plan on going to the beach a lot. This whole week the news has been warning about jelly fish in the water. Over the last weekend, there were over 300 alerts of the jelly fish stinging people. I know that and I will not go anywhere near the water. Some people that are vacationing here think they won't get bitten and venture into the water. That is like walking in front of a car driven by a drunken driver.

Oh my , they should heed the warning because my friend got stinged by it and forever she has a long black scar on her leg , aside from it so painful when stung or whipped by a jellyfish .

I like how jelly fish could look so pretty but don't want to go into the water with them in it. Don't want to risk it.

I have been stung by a jellyfish. It was not a dangerous one, but it hurt a lot. You would not get me in water near jellyfish again. They tend to be benign in the UK and my mother was as I remember, completely unconcerned as I was walking and breathing and just complaining about the sting. It was at a place called Tankerton and I had made my own bikini. I had forgotten all about it till you woke the memory up!

Isn't it funny how you can go for years without thinking of something and out of the blue something will remind us about it. That is what I love about this site. I have been taken back in time a lot since I have been on here. All great memories.

I get more concerned about the sharks. Last summer there were a lot of sharks but I didn't hear of any this year. Maybe they found a better place. I think they sent the jelly fish.

some folks seem to think such happens to others 'n don't pay much mind to the warnin'. i've been stung by those lil translucent critters'n such's most painful. sadly there t'weren't any warnings 'bout, they said mine 'twas the first case. yer correct with yer analogy :(

They are also warning about flesh eating bacteria living in the water and something called sea-lice, which is microscopic larvae of jellyfish. The create a painful rash everywhere that they touch. Just when you thought it was okay to play in the water.

@ramapo17 Lots of nasty things in the water. But we always want to go out in it, anyway.

My grandson is coming down in November and asked me today if we could take him to the beach at least once. I told him if I hear that no jelly fish are reported. He is 16 and loves the ocean. I always did too but not any more. Last year we kept getting shark alerts.

@akalinus When I was younger I was always in the water but there is no way I will go in it today unless it is a pool.

Some of our beaches become infested with jellyfish from time to time. I think swimming in pools is probably safer.

Always be careful with jellyfishes. They sting like hell, and i should know, i have tried being stung when i was little. Glad, it was not soserious. So staying out the water is the most sane thing to do.

Will you believe it, I never thought jelly fishes bite! The reason I won't go to beaches is simply because I am terrified of Sharks...thanks to Jaws.
