Having a Credit Card: Good or Bad? / myLot

I am thinking of applying for a credit card but thinking of the consequences currently weighs more on my decision so I am holding it off. I am afraid that my spending will get out of control if I get one. Having a credit card may also make me spend more on my wants rather than my needs. Of course, it has a bunch of advantages too like having money to spend in case of emergency, but I think I am not ready yet. Can you share your thoughts on having a credit card? Please also let me know when you think it is a good time to have one.

If you don't feel you can handle it, then I would say don't. But I have needed mine for emergencies like machines breaking down, etc. So they are handy. Just make sure you can make the payments.

I just got a Walmart credit card and I am going to use it wisely.
