What Will You Be Doing Today

May, a full river after the storms

I will not be gardening, or going to a lake. We have intermittent thunderstorms rolling through. I am preparing a salad for a funeral dinner tomorrow. I plan to make the one that has broccoli and cauliflower and raisins. I forgot to purchase a red onion, so that means I shall be going out at some point. I will do some laundry. Again, due to weather I will not dry it on a clothesline. It is just going to be a regular homebody type day. I am enjoying the cool breezes blowing in my front door and I have been noticing a few leaves already beginning to fall. For the most part it is the elms and the sycamores, I believe that are shedding. I once had an online friend who challenged us to watch the seasonal changes in nature and write about them. I remember the friend, but do not remember the term she used for what we watched. On Bubblews I posted the observations weekly with photo essays, until they took that away. I remember the friend. I had also known her on Gather. I may start posting the interesting things as we move into fall. I had one tree in my former town that I liked to watch. Maybe I will do that here.

That's a nice idea about posting the weather changes. What did I do today? I guess I felt a bit more energetic. I took our pickax and dug up some deep rooted weeds and made a row for chard. Its late in the season but chard likes cooler weather and the seed was left over so maybe? Good exercise in the hot sun anyway.

It is late here for most anything, I think, but I do have some old seeds and could at least plant lettuce. We may have to compare notes. I am wanting to root a sweet potato to take slips from next spring. That may end up being a series as well.

@sallypup The weather service posts an estimated first frost and last frost. You never really can tell though.

@GardenGerty Lettuce likes cooler weather. If only a person could figure when the night frosts start. Chard likes it cooler, too. We're still dealing with low 90s day time.

Well my plans changed a bit even as I was writing this. I got to go out for coffee with an old friend. In the town where I needed to go to buy my red onion.

This was a spring river picture, after five days of constant rain. For about the next week we are predicted to have rain off and on, and slightly cooler. Then it will shoot back up to high temperatures for a while. I should go out today and see the river this week. It rained in the night again, and I am just now at early morning.

I think that trees can be the best indication of the seasonal changes, though my garden is showing signs of being past it's best.

The heat here really wears on the gardens and flowers. We went to a different library tonight and they had a lovely yellow angel wing type begonia in a planter. They have maintained there ornamentals well.

Is that a beaver dam?

No, this is not. I will have to look out and see if I find a beaver dam to share on here. This was a tree that broke off and floated down the river and under the bridge last May. Often this kind of debris causes floods or near floods.

I love our tree in the front in the autumn with it's beautiful red leaves. I sure feel like I have a do nothing day. Of course I'm constantly doing something. What I need to be doing is changing litter boxes as the litter I bought through amazon came in the mail today.

It's the first cool day that I have experienced here in Manitoba so I have no idea. We are just into week two. I am hoping that this isn't the beginning of fall already!

I know that here we can still have days in the 90's and 100's. It slowly creeps in before you know it.

I'd love a homebody day today, it feels like that to me. I hope that you get everything done that you need to today. I am working a short (4 hour) shift. And then back home again to chill.

Yes, there is. I drove by the nearest lake twice today. Once when I met a friend for coffee and once with hubby. We have the prettiest sky and there are always wildflowers of one kind or another.

I am headed to the doctors office again for Tonys blood tests, he is off the thinners because the e.r. told him to get of them and they gave him mega does of Vit. K

They will not let my sister go off the thinners, but she has had stents in both legs and in her carotid artery. She seems to have balanced things out pretty well, though. I hope you get all of Tony's meds balanced.

Yes, that was in our nearby river in May. They say that the damaged trees are what causes the most trouble.

The weather is still too hot here and the clothes are easily dry. I have to go to bed now as it is past midnight. Good night.
