I never heard number 1 before! How about; a penny saved is a penny earned, haste makes waste.

Those are good ones. Another one I like is, "Take a look at the bright side." as this might precede the phrase, -"That contractor left you with just enough to buy a cup of coffee."

Fairly new to me:"Not my circus, not my monkeys" from my college days :"Shoot a duck"from my vast coffee cup collection: "Not all the clowns are in the circus" and last but not least, also from a coffee cup "if God wanted me to cook and clean my hands would be aluminum.". Popular everywhere: "No good deed goes unpunished". I think it is time for me to stop now.

"Haven't got a dog in that hunt." kind of like "Not my circus, not my monkeys."

@lookatdesktop The "dog/hunt" is kind of a country saying where people used to use dogs during hunts. I "shore" didn't get that one from my folks...

@DaddyEvil .. Do I bore you as a friend and keep as you put it your "spirits in competition"?

Apparently, yes, enemies are needed as much as friends are needed. Something/someone must keep our spirits in competition or we lose interest in life and quickly die of boredom.

My grandmother was full of those catchy words of wisdom. One of her favorites was "never say what you won't do, because sooner or later you will do it."

LOL! There are no new sayings! Just new people saying the same things in different ways! Everything in the world has already been invented somewhere, at some other time! I'm a lover, not a fighter! I'm too handsome for my own good! (Also substitute smart for handsome.) Old enough to know better but too young to care! Rise and shine! It's a brand new day out there! Let the Devil take the hindmost! Passion can't substitute for competence! There is no challenge in repeating the same things everyone else has done! Okay, I can't think of anymore, offhand.

lets see if any of these have not been mentioned- the grass is always greener on the other side, as cool as the other side of the pillow, monkey see, monkey do, you're as useful as a screen door on a submarine(personal fave), when life hands you lemons, make lemonade, dont let the door hit ya, where the good lord split ya, and a dated expression- heres a quarter, call someone who cares. any of these count?

That reminds me of another one that's a little dated. "That (statement) and a quarter will get you a cup of coffee." It's dated because no where can you still get a cup of coffee for a quarter.

You almost didn't make it like in time to get on the plane, in time to meet a friend who was about to take a taxi back to the apartment, or you just finished mowing the yard before a thunderstorm broke out. It also kind of means, You almost didn't make it.
