A Career as an Engineer

I have just entered my Junior year in college as a Software Engineer. It's a field I'm really excited to pursue a career in and I know as an engineer there will be a lot expected of me and the work that I do will impact many people's lives. Besides the math, classes I consider the engineering classes I've taken so far pretty interesting and quite fun to be in. I'm one of those who actually secretly find joy in math. I know what's wrong with me. Mathematical concepts intrigue me, and they keep my interest so I don't mind them all. So I'm trying to reach out to everyone, engineer or not, and would like everyone to share their opinion regarding what they know about the field, and what are a few good characteristics, and what is expected from engineers and finally most importantly, how to be successful.

@Ritchijo no, computer engineering deals with both but it depends here in India, it mostly inclined towards software, hardware is done by Electrical and telecommunication engineers

Hey, well congrats to you my man. Now, I still have a couple more years to go. Going to start looking into internships hopefully this coming summer. I still gotta look into that as well. Just an assumption, computer engineering differs from software in the means that you are mostly going to be dealing with hardware correct?

Yeah, I could honestly picture that. It's certainly challenging, but still a fun field to be in, a lot to learn and your creativity can often take you to great lengths. Has she mentioned to you what aspect is most stressful about it.

@Ritchijo the thesis... i don't know how many thesis they are going to make but I think maybe more than three .. she always comes home very late at night so her parents decided to rent a room in the same boarding house where she and her best friend could temporarily stay as they work on their thesis..

I'm so bad at math. Envy your secret.

See you mention that, I have one of my current professors who is so adept with coding and he is a software engineer as well. The thing is watching him do binary addition, binary-decimal conversion, etc, he clearly knew and was confident in the necessary methods; yet, this man was making attempts at doing simple math. Again, he's a professor, and he teaches the course well, he simply stumbles on the math which surprised me. I've had this idea, that unless you are majoring in math directly, these math courses are mostly used to enhance your logical thinking, and making certain connections, even in unclear circumstances. Now, that's just an opinion, I'd like to hear other's views on this.

Engineering is technical field. To be successful as an engineer you have to incorporate your technical knowledge with idea's.
