I'm new at online businesses and I need to know what works best as far as advertising? Banners, buttons, vendor parties, etc. I don't want to just throw my money away. As a customer, what grabs your attention and makes you want to buy?

Free demos work. Free samples too. Most of the time through word of mouth in forums.

The best way to drive traffic to your website its to find hoest people who would be interested in your website..How you do that? Here is just a few basic things which everyone knows Search Engines, Forums your signature..I would suggest you to but your websites address on your signature, whatever you are posting on the forum or whatever you sending an email..You must to think with your mind about new ways how you could drive traffic to your website, cause I am being honest with you..people who know those ways, they just not gonna share it with you...

If you are serious about your business, my opinion is that you should try to create a "presence" on the net. I.e. try to promote your business using all the available opportunities. One of the most important and FREE ways to promote your business is via blogging and submitting articles (all about your business area) to other sites.
One of the best sites I can recommend is:
www.betterbusinessblogging.com
to learn how to use blogging to promote yourself.
Also I have set up a newsletter for newbies like myself interested in all things internet marketing. If you are interested I can send you a link to sign up for the newsletter. You might pick up some ideas there on how to promote your business.
Wishing you every luck with that.

Great question! I got many good ideas just reading those that posted to your topic. I would offer some ideas but the ones I had were already given to you ~ but it's cool that I found some ideas that I could use too!
