Eight Year Gap From The Dentist

I am sure I am not alone in being fearful of the dentist. It's bad enough having to go, even harder to find a dentist who is patient, kind and one that you feel comfortable with. The worst bit I hate is the dreaded drill, you'd think they'd come up with something better with all this modern technology, but no. Anyway it's been 8 years since I last went to the dentist, the last time I went it wasn't a pleasant experience, but a few weeks ago I broke a piece of my tooth and it exposed a nerve and I just couldn't put it off any longer. Grudgingly I made an appointment, when I was seen for a consultation I was told I needed two fillings, and had to wait 9 days for the next appointment to get them done... Not sure if the waiting is worse than the actual procedure. Sure enough I got the dreaded drill, the two injections I cope with but that damn drill. Plus now you have to wear sunglasses while they work on your teeth, health and safety apparently. When finished the receptionist asked me if I wanted to book an appointment for February 2017. I said no, I don't look that far ahead. As if time doesn't go fast enough. Besides I was in no hurry to go back unless it was an emergency. Maybe like in another 8 years time I'll venture back. Is it too much to ask for a miracle that they do away with that dreaded drill?

I have been fearful of the dentist since childhood and its never really abated and as an adult I have to foot the bill also! I go every 6 months for cleaning and check up. If you don't bad things will happen.

I'm terrified of the dentists. I've often wondered why they couldn't at least put some sort of silencer on the drill. I know the noise doesn't help me to overcome my fear. I only go to the dentist if it's an absolute emergency.

I liked it when I had an appointment because that meant I'd turn up. If I don't have an appointment I just put it off for ages and ages. I need to go soon too. I'm not looking forward to it.
