The Game of Uno

One of my favorite childhood card games of all time is the game of Uno. Growing up, all us kids in the neighborhood would get together and have some incredible Uno marathons, especially during the heat of summer when it was often too hot to go outside, or if it was storming. Last night, the kids and I decided to purchase a deck of Uno cards at the store, and we had the most fun game of Uno that I've played since I was a child many, many years ago! Playing the game last night with my family brought back some amazing memories of my own childhood! It warmed my heart to see that my two kids loved the game as much as I did as a child, and based on their enthusiasm last night, I have a feeling we will be playing many more nights of Uno in the future! One of the things I most love about Uno is it's simplicity. And it amazes me even more that in this day in age where complex video games rule the day, the kids actually enjoyed something so simple and fun! How about you? Have you played Uno? Do you like the game? By the way, my daughter won the game last night, which made her even more enthused to keep playing!

Very nice you got to bond with your kids over your childhood favorite game and they enjoyed it too! I loved playing uno too, haven't played in a while though!

@moffittjc That's great you still got to bond together even though they're older. :) I haven't played Uno in years too! I love Monopoly especially though which I need to buy a new board set!

@infatuatedbby I have the monopoly game sitting on a bookshelf with countless other games, but it's been a few years since I've last played it. We used to play it a lot when my kids were younger. I'm sure we wore that game out, and probably lost half of the Monopoly money over the years! lol

Yeah, it was a long while for me too, and I can't believe I had gone that many years without playing! My kids are teens now, but they would have loved playing that game in their younger years.

It is one of the games we played when we used to go camping. The grandkids still like to play. It is simple and even younger kids can play by color so lots of fun to be had.

Wow, I never even thought about taking the game with us when we go camping! That's an excellent idea! Yes, I love the simplicity of the game, and I think that's why it still has such an appeal to younger generations!

@BelleStarr As long as there is no wind around to blow all the cards away, you are good to go!

I like playing UNO but haven't played for a long time. In fact, cleaning out my office I came across an unopened pack of UNO cards and set them aside, thinking that we might play some evening. The kids love to play UNO, but we just haven't gotten to it yet.

That's great that you found a deck of Uno cards! Make sure you don't lose them, and make sure you make time to play! I think you will have as much fun as the kids!

@moffittjc Yes, this winter we might be able to get the kids involved in a game of UNO, if its too cold to go outside.

I love Uno. I have a Simpsons version knocking about somewhere. We used to play it when I worked at Naughty School with 14 to 16 year olds and they loved it, which is bizarre. Kids with reputations to uphold bonding over a game of Uno ... when you've witnessed that you can never be scared of groups of teens on street corners ever again!

It's funny you mentioned dominoes, because I was driving by one of our city parks this morning and saw a group of elderly men sitting out in the park playing dominoes! Haven't seen that in quite a number of years!

Oh yes, Uno. LOL. I used to love Uno. I discover that when i play it now, I get nervous! The switching directions and stuff is harder for me now, I must be rusty!

Haha, yes, that old "reverse" card always throws people off during the game, but that's part of what makes it so much fun!

Oh, you definitely have to go out and buy the game! It is so fun to play, and so easy to learn! It's a great family game to play with the kids in the family since it is so easy to understand!

I played that game when I was kid. And then Uno had different versions of the game later. I haven't played it in years. Hope you've recovered from Shingles this summer.

Yes, I've seen the different versions of Uno, which I wish the company wouldn't have messed with. It was like they were trying to make the game more complex. Nothing beats the original Uno and its simplicity! For the most part, I have recovered from the Shingles. In fact, I plan to finally shave my beard off today! I still have a little bit of pain on the top of my head, since that was the last location of the breakout, but its slowly fading away. Doesn't really bother me too much except when I try to brush my hair for work in the morning! lol

Kids in our Children's Home love uno. In fact, when they were quarantined during the last chicken pox epidemic, uno helped them kill time.

Where are you located at? The reason I'm asking is because chicken pox should all but be wiped out nowadays since there is now a vaccine for it.

I like playing Uno because it is fun, but I also hate playing because I never seem to win at it. It is the same way with Monopoly. I don't mind losing, but it isn't much fun if you are always the one that loses.

I don't mind losing in Uno for some reason, just because it is such a game of chance, but I am a very sore loser in Monopoly, because that game is a game of skill and strategy! I should be able to outwit everyone I play against, but my daughter always seems to get the best of me in that game! lol
