Woke up with a stupid cold this morning! Suggestions please?

Usually I wouldn't care about having a cold. It always sucks being sick but now is not a good time for me to be sick. I'm really wanting to concentrate studying and practicing for my nail course. At the moment, I don't feel like doing much at all. Have had a headache, sore throat and runny nose all day. Really hoping I can at least get better before my next class which is on Friday. ( I go every Friday ). I'm keeping myself really warm and drinking lots of water. Anything else you can please suggest I do to help fight this cold?

I was going to suggest drinking lots of water, but you are already doing that! Warm soup always helps too! Loading up on zinc and vitamin C can also help boost your immune system, but unfortunately, a cold just has to run its course.

@VivaLaDani13 That's one of the things I hate when I get sick...as long as I am up, active and moving around, my aches and pains are minor and tolerable. But as soon as I lay down to sleep or rest, I feel absolutely horrible when I wake up. Sleep is supposed to help you feel better when you're sick, not make you feel worse! lol

@moffittjc EXACTLY! That is part of the reason I don't really want to lay down. I know I should be resting but laying down seems to do more harm than good lol At the moment I am feeling pretty good but it's probably just a false alarm. Usually when I think I am getting better, the next day it will be worse again. Stupid lying tricky colds!

@moffittjc Thank you for the advice! I was thinking that I was starting to feel better yesterday but after I woke from a little sleep oh my god! I was feeling 4 times worse. Head was pounding, Dry throat. And just feeling yucky that it was making me feel a bit agitated. I am eating an orange right now lol Hopefully it's magic enough to just make me feel a little better!

The last time I had a cold was 1992. Almost everyone I know routinely gets colds and some of them get mad because I never do--even though I'll be in close proximity to those with colds. I attribute my success at almost never getting colds to the fact that I never, ever, ever, ever drink cow's milk. It's been almost 50 years since I've drunk cow's milk. In order for the cold virus to live and thrive it needs lots and lots of mucus. There is nothing more mucus-laden than cow milk. If the cold virus gets into your body and there is not enough mucus for it to grow in then it will just pass out and you won't get a cold. The cold virus simply cannot survive without mucus. And personally, I'm convinced that cow milk is also the biggest transmitter of the cold virus. Of course you already have a cold so this information doesn't help in your current situation--although you might keep it in mind for avoiding colds in the future. As for your current situation, the other commenters have given some great suggestions. I can only add to that by suggesting you eat lots and lots of garlic and onions (jalapenos are helpful, too). Nothing breaks down mucus better and faster than garlic and onions. Hmm, now that I think about it, that may be another reason I never 'catch' colds. In addition to never drinking milk, I eat copious amounts of onions and garlic on a daily basis (as well as lots of jalapenos). I hope you're better soon.

@MKAlubs That's really interesting about the cows milk! I'd like to do some more research on that for I've never heard of that before. I'm really intrigued. That's some really interesting and good advice thank you so much! You're certainly knowledgeable in this area and yeah, I don't blame others for being mad about you not getting a cold lol Lucky!

@MKAlubs But... But... But.., I don't drink ANY kind of milk. I and milk are sworn enemies. I eat onions and garlics too. Obviously most of Indian dishes have those added into them. So yeah I eat them daily and I STILL get cold. Horrible one that directly hits my head. I think I am doubly mad at you for not getting cold.

Fried onions in brown sugar. My New Zealand Uncle told us years ago and it got my Dad through a work interview.

@Jackalyn I've never heard that before! Thank you! Does it help with the runny nose? Or sore throat? Or just the cold altogether?

You can treat the symptoms and you can drink hot lemonade and such. But a cold lasts as long as it lasts. I just hang with 'em, I like TheraFlu for the symptoms, it's hot and soothing. Yep the water's good for you.Hope you feel better soon.

@CinnamonGrl We have lemonade. I will warm some up. I do agree that the cold will just go when it's ready really. Just hoping something can make me feel better. Thank you so much and for the tips!

Drink hot tea and lemon, eat chicken soup with clear broth, and take aspirin. If your body tells you that you need to rest … OBEY!

@VivaLaDani13 YOU ARE SICK!!! Why am I learning this through this post? Anyways take care and get warm and snuggly on bed or in lounge room as you prefer. You can make tea and add little ginger paste or grinded ginger into water. Let it simmer for some time in order for it to leave its taste before adding tea ingredients. For sore throat, add a pinch of salt in a glass of lukewarm water. At least warm enough that it feels hot and you are able to drink it too without burning your tongue. Gargle four to five times, spit it out and then drink the rest of the water. Do this after every two hours. It will definitely soothe the throat pain. Get well soon! Here responsiveme had shared some home remedies:
I’ve been writing about the lush monsoon greenery which captivates my senses. But, as in all things there is a downside to it too. Getting caught in the rain...

@VivaLaDani13 I wrote that because you and I were talking for while and there was no mention of being sickly. I read the post at almost good bye time. Yeah do that it helps me with the sore throat. For runny nose I just take medicine for cold and for fever. You iz welcome!

By this time, I know you've become better than yesterday. Colds are part of life when our immune system is working to balance our body's temperature or something to make our health better. If you drank lots of water, after a day or two you'll feel better. Getting enough rest will help a lot so keep on doing what you can do..
