The Coyote and the Roadrunner Once in the American Sonoran Desert, side by side, lived Sneaky the Coyote and Speedy the Roadrunner. Sneaky and Speedy were pretty much always at odds with one another. Sneaky would hide behind cactus plants and try to creep up on Speedy, but Speedy would always spot Sneaky's nose or his bushy tail sticking out from behind the cactus and Speedy would run away faster than lightning can zap down from a thundercloud. The two kept this behavior going year after year. Eventually, the two aged into geriatricity. Now, fat and his hair, white, Sneaky no longer fit very securely behind even the largest cactus plant. With his knees giving out, Speedy could no longer run like a lightning bolt. The two finally decided that it might be time to strike a truce with one another. They met at the dry waterhole for their peace conference. Both agreed to have Hooty, the desert owl, as their conference moderator. The peace session proceeded along usual lines. That is, Speedy said one thing. Sneaky objected to what Speedy said. Then Sneaky put forth a statement. Speedy fussed about what he claimed was all lying and blustering by Sneaky. So went the peace conference far into the late hours. When darkness fell, Hooty, the owl, got hungry and excused himself to go forth and hunt some tasty mice for his supper. When he returned after his supper, Hooty found Sneaky and Speedy curled up together, zonked out and fast asleep from conference exhaustion. Declaring the peace conference a grand success and at a happy close, Hooty flapped his silent wings and away he went to his perch atop a giant saguaro cactus. Moral: Constant war is so bred into the genes that ending wars is usually but a dream. * * * * * * * * * * Image source: MorgueFile dot com - Collage Gus Kilthau * * * * * * * * * *

So far, the war in my country hasn't ended. There is security to prevent terror attacks, but, it happens from time to time. I ask myself, this war will never end, isn't it better to stop it and just rest together like in this fable ? Our leaders get old, they die and get replaced by other leaders, so, the peace must show up sometime or the war will never end since no one gets tired...

@Ceerios That's a horrible thing, Gus, in my country, we cannot defeat because of the terrorists are individuals that get up in the morning and decide to kill. No one can tell in advance that someone will decide to kill today. So, that war has some quiet periods, but, it never gets to a temporary final result of defeat or defeated. There is no army to fight against.

A critical look at peace conferences...no moderator works, you got to be the change.....thats what your fable means ?

@responsiveme - Friend ARM - "Moderators" are there as go-betweens. They are "message carriers" and are really not supposed to sit between two opposing parties so as to guide them in the conversation. Some moderators are intelligent enough to get out of the way and let opponents find their own solutions because solutions imposed are solutions quickly abandoned by all. -Gus-

Until I saw your picture I hadn't realised what an actual roadrunner looked like, only ever having seen the cartoon. Yup, it seems that there will always be wars.

@jaboUK - Ms Janet - Even the best of photographs doe not do the roadrunner justice. You should see a roadrunner go after a rattlesnake out there in the desert. That bird is something altogether "else." -Gus-
