Music of Our Youth

For me, it was the sixties when I lived my teenage years. I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area and WOW was there ever a lot of good music. It was exciting. Even our local bands who played our school dances seemed to end up with national hits. So much of what we heard, we didn't have to pay much for, if at all.. They were at teen club. Sometimes shopping malls! So much fun. Creedence Clearwater used to be The Golliwogs, for instance. And they played at a local teen club where it was two bucks to get in. I was just listening to a 60s radio station on the puter while I worked on my paint by number. Sure took me back to those turbulent times. Of course i know all the lyrics, LOL. I guess we all listen to "our" music and have very specific memories. While I was listening to these songs, I could feel the feelings I had when the music was fresh and new. Funny how that works. Do your musical memories take you right back to the past? Or are you firmly planted in the present? Did you like the music of your youth better, or do you like what there is now?

God I love Dylan. "Highway 61 Revisited" is one of my "desert island disks." I'm taking it with me wherever I end up!

I think most of us like our youth music better if you were born before the 1990s. There is still good music today, but most of it goes under the radar.

@CinnamonGrl One has to do a lot of research today to find good music. Maybe our youth just spoiled and I do miss the days when MTV really brought a lot of bands to the forefront, where if they did not, then those bands would have probably never been heard of.

Right. I always appreciate when a friend shares something with me that they know will speak to me. Because I'd rarely be able to find it myself.

It's funny how living in that area caused us to bump up against the famous, but they weren't famous then, a lot of them.

I love music all the way from the 1890s to the present. I don't love all of it equally, but I have a real fondness for certain eras.

I hear a song on the radio and I thin back to when I was a teen and heard that song. I though about what I was doing back than.

Sometimes I think I remember what I was wearing when certain songs come on. Little details even come back.

I was a young person through the 70s and 80s. I like music from that Era better then I do today's music. I grew during the disco Era. When disco was the rage. Going out dancing back then was so much fun. I also liked the styles of then too. The big hair was my thing. lol

LOL. Lots of good music then, too. Disco was fun, people put it down a lot but it was a lot of fun I thought.

Living in the San Francisco area... that would have been so cool. The closest that I ever got was on vacation. I just had to have by picture at the corner of Haight and Ashbury... Ah, if only the houses could talk! It was funny how many couples our age were lining up to do just that lol!

Definitely of our past. Hubby plays on the player CCR , Eagles,Beatles , Bob Dylan while driving. We were teenagers in the 80s but 60s was a great era for music. We also listen to old melodies in our native language

I like music whether it is the music of my past time as a young man, or current music as a middle-age man. Of course, some old music brings me back to those days when I was young. Also some of the present music is also very nice. Music is something that makes me feel nice and happy.

I'm the type of person who loves listening to music. I like listening to the present songs of this generation but I prefer the ones I listened to 5-7 years ago. When everything was lesser compared to now (if you get what i mean)

That is so neat that where you lived you got to see the bands before they became huge! Music is an awesome way to transport us back in time.. good times and bad when we hear songs.

I was a teenager in the late 50's and 60's. I was big into all rock and roll and to this day when I hear songs from back then I immediately relive my past. I saw many of the rock and roll stars as we use to have school dances and many of the stars of that era would go to them. My best concerts ever were Elvis and Barry Manilow. I saw Barry at least 8 times in person. We had dances every Sunday just like American Bandstand. I grew up in New Jersey and was close to Philly and New York so we had lots of opportunities to meet the entertainers. That was a great time to grow up.
