My Grandfather Was Charge With Attempted Murder Because of a Snake

Now this was a story that I didn't know about until a year ago. I don't know how it didn't become legend in the family because if that isn't a story that legends are made of, I don't know what is.
It all began because Grandpa was deathly afraid of snakes. To look at him, you would never know. He could take on a man twice his size and win. But throw a snake at him and he would freak out apparently. One day one of his friends decided as a joke to throw one at him. This is where the story changes. One story said that it was a real snake, the other story was that it was a stick that every one shouted was a snake.
Anyway, Grandpa went bullistic and beat the crap out of the man who had thrown it at him. He was then charged with attempted murder until the judge heard the whole story... believe it or not the charges were dropped. Now, if I could just find something in a newspaper lol... I would love to know what actually happened!!
Now they say that stories like this might not be 100% true, but there is always a nugget of truth.
From what I know of Grandpa, I could see him doing it!

Having such a great fear of snakes I can understand why your grandfather reacted the way that he did when provoked. It was cruel of the other person to think something like that would be amusing. I guess he quickly learned that it wasn't the case. I am glad it was thrown out.

It's just one of those stories that circulated in the family... Unless I can find an account in a paper, I don't think that we will ever know for sure.

@Hate2Iron These stories are always based on truth but get changed and distorted with the telling and retelling.

I don't think that Grandpa thought the situation out to any degree. First he was terrified at being in such contact with a snake and then being furious for the joke that was played on him.

None of them are interested in the Family Tree other than me. I don't think that Mom every brought it up before she mentioned it to me.

Totally unbelievable. How can it be an attempt to murder when it is a snake, whether live or artificial one.

I'm sorry for that.
It looks all this started to out of fun and later led to some dangerous consequences.
Its also a sought of bullying. Some people find it amusing to bully people.I'm totally against it. One should always respect other persons feelings and behave accordingly how strong their relationship might be. Fun should be to only a certain extent.

I never saw any violence in Grandpa all the years that I knew him, but I guess he could be one way with his grandchildren and another way with adults.
