Sims, Dogs and Holidays

The villa we stayed in in Tenerife the last time we stayed in a villa, in 2012. One of the most beautiful places I've ever stayed in!

Well, apologies for yet another absence! The truth is that I’ve been really getting into Sims 4, which (coupled with family involvements) has meant that everything else has taken second place! At some stage I shall write about what I like – and don’t like – about Sims 4 compared with the other Sims games, but I shall refrain from doing so on my first day back, so to speak. So, what has everyone been doing? We’re off to Cyprus on holiday in a week’s time, so we’re all rather taken up with that at the moment. My daughter and I are going to have our finger and toe nails polished on Wednesday – a very necessary part of preparing for our departure! – and we’ve been buying lots of Kindle books. We’ve also been busy concocting all sorts of strange rumours and regulations concerning airline regulations for my son, who hasn’t experienced an international flight for over 20 years. Well, my daughter has, anyway. I guess it’s what “little” sisters are for! Our other priority is obtaining a dog. We went to a local Rescue Centre the other day. It was very sad! There were not many dogs in, but those who were looked so excited at the prospect of being let out, and so upset when we didn’t let them out. None there would have been suitable for us, but we fell in love with two who were not. It has to be a dog that I can pick up and that won’t pull me over, as I’m not very steady on my feet. Sadly, many of the dogs were bull breeds of one sort or another. While these breeds are often very affectionate with “their” humans, they are usually much too strong for me, and their reaction to other dogs is not always dependable. I did rather fall for a small French Bulldog, but someone else had got there first. In any case, we couldn’t do anything before going on holiday. Anyway, I must go now and get on with sorting out what I’m going to pack. I always seem to pack and unpack at least three times before I go, and even then I forget something vital. So, how organised are you at packing? And, if you were hoping to obtain a dog, how would you go about doing so? I’d really love a Miniature Schnauzer, but it seems kinder somehow to go to a Rescue Centre and give a home to a dog that needs one.

Did sims 4 already patched the problem of adults and teens looking the same for having the same body type and height? I really want to try sims 4 but that part upsets me. I am also waiting for toddlers to comeback.

I've found it difficult to tell teens from adults in 2 and 3!

@Vivenda teens are short in sims 3 and 2 and they also look skinnier. I heard the next expansion is called "City Life"

@CaptAlbertWhisker Sounds good - and sounds as if it might correspond to "Nightlife". I think the teens are shorter and skinnier in 4. As I say, it's quite new to me! I still much prefer the "open world" format in Sims 3, but I don't like waiting for 20 minutes or so for the screen to load! By the way, guess whose suitcase is the heaviest!

I love it when the whole family comes on holiday with us, as they did for our last cruise. I hope you all have a great time in Cyprus. I'm not very organised with packing - I just leave a suitcase open on a spare bed about a week before, and chuck things into it as I think about it. Regarding the dog - yes a rescue dog is the way to go, but you do have to make sure that you will suit each other.

Of course, the whole brother/sister dynamic is still very much in evidence, despite the fact that they're in their mid thirties. My daughter (always the dominant one, despite being 3 years younger) is already complaining about having to share a bathroom with him!

We're looking forward to getting there, but not to the journey itself, which involves getting up at some unearthly hour in the morning. Daughter, Son and I are wondering about not going to bed at all!

@Vivenda - One of my daughters always stays up all night if she knows she is going to have to get up ridiculously early to leave on a trip. Then, she sleeps on the airplane.

@DeborahDiane We're off tomorrow morning - and I didn't have more than 4 hours' sleep last night! Perhaps for once I will actually manage to sleep on a plane!

I think you are right about the bull breeds. Hopefully next time you go a smallish dog will choose you. That's what often seems to happen. And well done for considering a rescue. Retired greyhounds are supposed to make great pets and are used to being on leads. They are also couch potatoes apparently if allowed to be.

I love greyhounds, Judy, but unfortunately I think they are rather too big for me to manage!

I'm hoping to get a dog one day. I would almost certainly go to a rescue centre. Ideally though I would like to adopt a ready made family of 2 cats and a dog, so that I knew they all got on with each other. I'm sure I would always want to have cats and dog as pets.
