Pumpkin's rant of the day: Greasy Food, and Other People's Children

Good evening. Today, I took Mini and my Dad to the cinema. It was great. We watched 'Nine Lives', which was very funny. I won't talk about that in case of spoilers. There weren't many others in the cinema. In fact, it's quite rare to see many people there.
Anyway, after we had been to the cinema, we went to have some lunch. Now, I prefer to eat healthily whereas my Dad, when asked, will always say he wants chips. Mini doesn't mind as there is always something he likes. There are a few food places near to the cinema. Fast food, a restaurant, and a gastropub. Well, they both said fast food but then I suggested the pub because then we could all have something we wanted.
Well, my Dad chose to have a carvery (not a chip in sight :D ). Mini had pizza and garlic bread. I wanted a salad but they had none on the menu. I went for minted lamb with new potatoes and greens. It was quite nice, and the lamb wasn't fatty as I know lamb can be. It did, however, seem to have a lot of oil laying on it. This is something which I wish pubs wouldn't do. What I mean is, when you go for what you believe is a healthier option, you don't expect it to be greasy. I've seen salads with bacon. Now, I have no problem with bacon but if I want a healthy salad, it makes no sense to add fatty bacon to that (if it's lean bacon, that's OK although, perhaps, a little salty for some tastes). Or the salads come with sugary dressings or tossed in goodness knows what. It's not just salads, of course, but that is something everyone assumes to be a healthy choice. Another one (well another two): prawns and tuna. Why can't they be just prawns and just tuna? They're good and they taste nice. But they are always in a sugary sauce or fatty mayo. Even fresh vegetables are often cooked with butter. So, what I am saying is, your healthy options are really not as healthy as they could be. Yes, I could stay at home to eat so I could have what I want but so could every fussy person. I'm not fussy, I just want my food to be what it is and it defeats the purpose of having healthy options on a menu when they are full of unhealthy things.
The other thing was other people's children. Because we had Mini with us, we had to sit in the children's area. It's nice for the people who don't have children to be able to sit in a child-free area. It's not so nice to have to put up with other people's children. There were too many of them, they seemed to all be screaming and squealing. Apparently, looking after your children and disciplining them when they need it is out of favour. It also seems that people believe it is normal for children to squeal. Well, it isn't. Even if it were a normal thing to do, a decent parent would tell them to stop so that they learn. Although, I realise that many parents are under the impression that certain things are normal for certain aged children, and that they will just magically stop doing those 'normal two-year-old' things when they turn three. No. If you do not let your two-year-old know that squealing is not acceptable when they are two, they will continue to think it is acceptable and you'll find yourself wondering why you have a 14 year old who squeals.
That is all. Other than the food being a bit too oily, the meal was quite nice. Dad and Mini enjoyed theirs too. Apart from the shouty kids, we had a good afternoon.
So, how has your day been? Is there anything that puts you off eating out? Or annoys you about it?

People's squealy kids bug me, too. Fortunately I haven't run into that for awhile. Maybe people around here aren't taking them out to the places I go. They choose McDonald's or something instead I guess. As for food, I've learned the good places in this area so I know where to go that suits my taste.

Like you, when I want a salad, I want to taste the various elements of it. I sometimes wonder if places dress the salads to disguise the fact they are not as fresh as they could be.
Squealing kids are very annoying, it's not so bad if the parents are trying to quieten them but many parents, as you say, think children learn good behaviour by magic rather than hard work from the parents.

It just started hours ago. I hate unruly children and parents who tolerate such behavior of their kids.
