This is one of my pictures from my journeys across the wild. I love visiting forests, seeing and photographing wildlife is a early ritual for me. We spotted this elephant as we driving through a forest. It so much fun spotting a wild elephant.. but then they can be dangerous.. especially those tuskers that are alone by themselves. The could turn wild and cause a rampage.
I was lucky to have spotted this one and got a decent picture of him though it was from a distance. Hope you like the picture.

@hereandthere The female Asiatic elephants do not have tusks. The male or the tuskers as we call them usually have one a very tiny one even as babies. While that is not true of African elephants.. both male and females have tusks.

That is pretty neat. I have never even seen one at the zoo, maybe the zoo, but was to little to remember. The male elephants seem worse than the female ones because of their testosterone rage thing that happens to them. Sorry cannot remember what it is called and I suppose female ones can be bad also if you get in the way of their children.

@crossbones27 You are spot on with your observation.. A female elephant with a young calf is equally dangerous as a lone tusker. On one occasion we had saw a car trampled by a male tusker.. I was told that the people in the car escaped before the elephant attacked the car.

@epiffanie Yes she is a young mother.. these too can be dangerous as they see humans as a threat to their babies.

@Jackalyn The color of the Asiatic Elephant is a dark hue between black and brown.. but elephants do give themselves a mud bath when the weather gets too hot.. The color of the mud often gives them a different color.. This picture was taken early in the day.. the lighting was perfect for the picture. You can actually see her back and stomach region brushed with reddish mud.

@sofssu,What a pic!! It's really great.I am interested in wildlife.Almost every evening I go to the small jungle at the outskirts of my hometown.I have many times spotted jackals, hyenas and wolves there, but never an elephant. However wild elephants keep straying into villages every year in winter. These villages are located barely 7-10 kms from our town. But I don't have a good camera.I'll buy one very soon.

they could cause damage when calm just because of size, I always loved them though

@Jessicalynnt They are generally peace loving animals unless provoked. They are dangerous only when they perceive a threat to the herd or young member of the herd.

@sofssu I wondered about them accidentally stepping on something, maybe not something alive, but I bet they could easily ruin a field of crops

@sosapanla Agreed, the elephant is one majestic animal.. while you can find a lot of tame elephants in the whole of Asia finding one in the Jungle is the adventure.
