Do you enjoy all-day trainings as much as I do?

We have an all-day training today. Or is it an all-staff meeting? It's one of those things I go to and think: Yes, the work we do is important. Yes, domestic abuse has negative effects on the kids. Applause for so-and-so, who has been with the organization for 25 years. Yes, I had to cancel my afternoon client for this meeting. Thank goodness the coffee is good. I hope they have Swiss cheese to go with the ham.

when I worked in the library we had
staff meetings I had to attend, I always
thought of them as lady dog meetings'in'
that someone would always bring up
nothing but complaining.to me it was
so irritating as we had a great staff'and most of the library patrons felt we all did a'great job,.

We used to have a lot of meetings but it kept the communication lines open and I rather enjoyed the break. Hope they had Swiss cheese to go with the ham.

I cringe at having to sit through all-day staff meetings. To me, they are the biggest waste of time. Thankfully, at my work we only have to do it about once a year. Most of our other "long" staff meetings are kept to under a half a day. Although, the one benefit of the all-day meetings are that our bosses treat us to lunch! lol

It's shocking how little sense they think their employees have. Most staff meeting topics are insulting. So are the seminars they send teachers to, some are even mandatory. When the state decided to send all teachers to learn about other cultures (because they think teachers live in caves) they made the seminars mandatory for foreign language teachers too. Boy, were we all ticked. We were degreed, credentialed and experienced teaching this material. Eventually, so we wouldn't go on strike, they excused us.So no, I don't enjoy them either.

@TheHorse Right. A foreign language department that is racist. Doesn't exist anywhere. We picked the subject to spend our lives teaching. Who does that if they hate different racial or ethnic groups?

I think it depends on what the agenda is but I usually don't. A few years back I attended a training to be an environmental officer for 5 days and that's from 8-5. I got headaches every single day from stress and the only way i knew to relieve that was to garden upon arriving home. It was at that time i discovered that touching the soil actually relieves stress.

It is nice to catch up with colleagues sometimes but to be honest I would much rather just get on with my job although I know some people thrive on going to meetings and avoiding the work load. When they have a senior managers meeting It amazes me how much crap comes out and how very detached and removed from reality some of these senior managers are from what is really happening at ground level.
