Bananas or maybe not?

Yesterday Leah pup stared at me as I chomped a banana. I offfered her a bite. She rared back like I had poison in my hand. I then offered the snack to Sally pup. She grabbed it and ate it. I gave her another piece. Leah stared like Sally had lost her doggie marbles. About an hour ago I sat out on our deck swing, eating a banana. The rebel hen walked around below me, chattering her hen gossip. I tossed her a bite of banana. Right away she pecked up chunks. How does a hen know to eat something that no hen in this part of the world has had contact with? Made me laugh, anyway.

@Jessicalynnt The Buff Orpington hen is pretty big. They're more afraid of intruders than you might be of them.

Makes you wonder what a hen would not eat.

They don't know what it is. It's a good treat for dogs.

Vin offered Herc a piece of his banana once but Herc decided against it - but not till he'd sniffed every last bit of it. Of course, Vin couldn't eat it then either.

@sallypup I would never have tried a sheep on a banana - certainly not on MY banana - but Vin thought he might like a piece.

Wow you sure do have banana loving pets over there! My cat loves to check out everything I eat and the last time she came over to smell my banana, she made a face and ran away! lol It's just not her thing...

As far as I know hens will eat pretty much anything.

@shaggin Hens are actually quite picky critters.

@sallypup My friend has them and my parents had them and they literally ate anything they gave them even ham and noodles etc. Maybe its certain breeds that are pickier.

@shaggin All the hens I have had will only certain things. Right now I have yellow cherry tomatoes growing. When I find a not so good one I have given them to the hens. They just mostly walked on the tomatoes.

The banana would have made me jump back, too. My stomach does not like then and has a habit of throwing it back out.

@RichardMeister I am the same way with green bananas. I love ripe ones, though.

That's funny. Also funny how one dog liked it and the other didn't. Some people freeze chunks of fruit for a summer dog treat.
