Late to the Cord Cutting Party

Everyone I know has pretty much 'cut the cord' when it comes to their cable bill. It's something my husband and I have talked about multiple times, but have never really gotten around to making a firm commitment to.
I want to do this for a number of reasons. While I do think in the end it will wind up being slightly cheaper for us each month, that's not the biggest reason. It's actually an opportunity to have access to more shows that we'd like to watch, but don't subscribe to.
Right now we're paying $146 a month for our cable and internet. Out of that, it works out to $75.94 for the cable bill. We don't have any premium channels such as HBO or Showtime, but we do have the extended cable so that we can watch channels like AMC and USA.
I feel that $75 a month could go to streaming services that would assure we're paying for things we actually watch and like, as opposed to all those cable channels that we never see.
Before the end of the year, I want to finally get around to cutting the cord, and seeing how much it actually costs us in the end.

I can't do it yet because we need to stick with what my mom is familiar with, and that is the Dish
