Unusual Garden Installation

I have been sorting through photos and came across this one of a garden installation. It is situated outside one of the buildings at the University of Western Australia. I'd like to say it was the engineering building but I'm not sure. It was a year or two ago. I wouldn't have thought something like a simple nut could be so attractive. Have you come across sculptures or installations of objects not usually associated with such works of art? And isn't that a lovely looking tree trunk at the side?

It's weird to see a statue of a nut. Wonder what the idea was behind it.

I don't know really but I quite like it. They create some weird pieces sometimes.

@JudyEv True, I see statutes that I have no idea what it represents.

I have seen some weird sculptures during our travels, I can remember a giant hand in France and a very big plate of spaghetti in an Italian city.

We saw some unusual sculptures in Freiburg in Germany when we were there too.

Humans can't create something in quite the same way as Mother Nature, can they?

I love that sculpture! It's is one of the coolest things I've seen in a while! Wish I had that near where I live so I could go get a photo of me standing in front of it!

It's surprising what can add or detract from a photo.

@JudyEv Are you saying that if I stood in front of that sculpture to have my photo taken it would detract from the beauty of the sculpture? LOL

@moffittjc You're very quick to jump to conclusions! Did I say that you would spoil the sculpture?

@allknowing It's of no importance. My husband always corrects me if I get it wrong so now I do it just to nark him.

@IlijaMarkovski Sometimes they don't seem attractive at first but you get more used to it over time. :)

I would love to see it from afar and how it looks with the rest of the trees and bushes around it .. I have seen some sculptures and other garden works of arts popping up around Melbourne lately.. One really needs to see all the angles to appreciate them more ..

That is very true. I sometimes take a close-up so people can see the detail but then you miss out on the context of the piece. It's a pity we can't post more than one photo here.

Aluminum would probably be the most practical, so that's my guess. It looks like someone took a section of municipal-sized drain tubing (that part may be steel, as it's usually buried and would need to be strong) and then used sheet metal to build the rest around it.

It may not be as there are some huge buildings and bridges in the world which quite possibly use even more massive nuts.

I'd guess it was the engineering building too. Unusual and interesting.

It's probably a bit big for most home gardens but it's very attractive. I wonder if they have to polish it? That would put me off!

@JudyEv it is amazingly different. I love the setting. The lines on the tree trunk flow beautifully next to the set structure of the nut sculpture.
