My Fitness Plan

I've just started the 'Couch to 5k' fitness plan, which aims to get people off the couch and running in 9 weeks. So far I've only done one week, but it's going quite well. For the first week you alternate a series of 90 second brisk walks with 60 second runs over a half hour period. By the 9th week I should be able to run constantly for 30 minutes. I'm not overweight, but I do think it's time I focused on my physical fitness. I'm someone who spends huge amounts of mental energy each day - I always seem to be over-analyzing things -- and I think I need a better balance between physical and mental activity. The only problem is that I've been running in the fields behind where we live and you get a lot of dogs off the lead and they sometimes scamper over to me when I'm running. I feel a bit mean not being able to stop and stroke them, but I have to keep running! Has anyone else done this kind of fitness programme? What do you find are the best ways to stay fit?

I have never been a runner and am well past it now but this seems a really good idea for you.

@5thHouse It's always good to have someone going along with you on these things.

It's early days yet and running still doesn't feel very natural to me, but I'm curious to see what I can achieve over the next few weeks. My hubby is doing the plan too so we can encourage each other to keep going

I'm just eating normally. I think my diet is generally okay and I'm not looking to lose weight, just to get fitter and prove to myself that I can actually run!

I've been saying for weeks, maybe a few months time I got more active again. I'm not overweight either but I have put a little on and it needs to come off, don't like it. The other day I bought some new shoes and went for just over a 2 miles jog. Some years ago I did a long of running. I hope to go again tomorrow or Sunday, tomorrow would be good, but I'll see yet.

I run up and down the stairs at work and go on a stationary bike at home. Good for your leg muscles.

I had an exercise bike a few years back but it was giving me such muscular calves! I agree, going up and down stairs is great exercise.
