Misleading Prices on the Menu by .25 cents...

United States
September 2, 2016 1:28pm CST
A few times I have gotten coffee for my boyfriend, the price is always different on the receipt from the menu. I never really said anything because it's only by .25 cents, but today I decided to question the cashier. She was shocked and said she hadn't notice. (Which probably is the point!) She quickly grabbed her manager who gave me 10% off my entire purchase as I bought pastries too and apologized for the misleading prices. She said, the prices of drinks/coffees has increased but the menu hasn't reflected and she will let upper management know. Hmm.. that isn't right regardless! The menu has been up since they opened like for two months ago! Although .25 cents isn't much, it can be a difference from cup sizes (Medium to Large)

It was wrong to be misleading but the staff seemed to handle it in a professional manner and you did get a nice discount

At least they will always keep in mind to keep the menu always up-to-date. That might be an honest mistake but it would really make some customers upset.

The price is still like that. She didn't bother to update the price or go make a sign to let people know *prices increased as of so/so date.

The menu has not even changed. I am just one person who pointed it out ~ doubt many people pay attention. I only noticed because I don't like coffee and I read the prices lol.

Yeah, they have ripped me off a few times. Regardless if the price went up - they have to notify people.

When something like this happens I point out that the lowest price is the one I am paying.

Wow, that is a huge mistake for them to not notice - and for so long!! That sounds like something that people could take legal action on. I'm sure all those mistakes add up to a lot - even in a day!!

@infatuatedbby They had to do more than just "let them know" . . . they HAD to do something about it. Seriously they are cheating people with every transaction!!

The manager was like "oh, we'll let management know". So they don't care. At least put a sign, coffee prices increased or something. I don't mind if the price increased (because its handmade to order and takes longer than just buying pastries) but that's totally misleading!

@much2say Yeah, what a lame excuse. The sign was on digital on the tv so I'm sure all they had to do was edit / change the price then display that image on the tv instead. Doesn't seem like it's too hard of a job to do! And employees supposedly not even knowing. Clearly you they're cheating!!

They cannot charge the new price if they do not correct the price on the menu first.

Exactly right? Or at least make a note like prices subject to change at any time or something.

@infatuatedbby I agree, even a notice to let know that the prices have changed to ask the sales people.

@infatuatedbby I wonder if they figured revenues from mis-quoted prices into their budget. Cynical, I know.

The menu is still like that til' this day I wouldn't have noticed if it's something I like but since I was buying it for my boyfriend (coffee) ~ and I'm not familiar with coffee prices, I noticed I could have paid for the Large for another quarter, but I'm getting a medium for more? SO I was like hMmmmMm..

LOL. She said she hadn't noticed but she also knew of the price change and that it wasn't reflected on the menu. … Yet! Didn't upper management decide on the price increases? Isn't upper management in charge of the menu? Who is she that she has to tell upper management what they should do? Isn't she just a waitress? Uh huh. Sounds like a truthful explanation. NOT!

I know right? For all we know, they could profit from the price difference. All I know is the coffee prices are inflated by .25 cents. What about the other items and for every person, it sure does add up!

@infatuatedbby sometimes they get caught up in daily business and forget the little details. That 25 cent difference can really build up. I am surprised that no one else said anything.

Yes but it's a digital sign- figures they can edit the price and then load it on the tv. It doesn't mean much by .25 but it does adds up!
