How do we connect to the idea of status?

In Delhi, people are obsessed with the concept of aukat (status). What does it mean when someone says I will show you your aukat (status)? Does it mean that people forget where they belong to as they grow up? Where do they belong to? The status that we talk about in every day life is something that we are born with. But it could also be something that we as a society construct for people around us. We do not know anything more about people that we see everyday. Based on our understanding and judgements we put people into categories. These categories are boxes of different colours and sizes which are filled up with our understanding of how people are and how they actually should be.

I think even the power that you possess is a response to that status symbol you have in the society. I believe certainly not everything revolves around that but these things continue to affect those who continue to be the subjects of deprivation.

@avi256 haha..philosophical? may be..but sometimes the little things in life that we observe are far too complicated than we think they are.

Ego seems to be the root cause of demeaning others. In metropolitan cities like Delhi, there are many VVIPs and everyone thinks that he is bigger in status than others. Therefore, if any fight occurs, one would say to other that - "I would show your 'aukat' means I would be prove that I am more powerful than you and you do not stand in front of me."
Ego clashes precipitate the situation and bring bitterness. People are forgetting how to control themselves and be humble.

When someone says or comments about Aukat of someone, it could not just be power or hold, but also financial condition that separates the status of one person to another.
It could also be to show someone his/her weakness and show how inferior that person is.
And it is not just Delhi, but all over.
