I found this book somewhere. It is about a little pony that was left in the barn by her owner during Hurricane Katrina. She survived on a pile of hay that had been left in a corner of the nearly collapsed barn. She was lucky to have been found and given a home in a animal sanctuary. She was happy to wile aways her days until one day a rabid crazed pit bull attacked her and chewed one of her legs off. Her leg had to be amputated and she was given a new limb and began a career as a therapy animal. She visited injured children and adults in the hospital.
Written by Pam Kaster in 2008 this book examines the true life story of this sweet little 8 year old pony. The author won the ASPCA's True Story Award in 2008 and also wrote “Zydeco Goes to Horse Camp".

Too bad her owners weren't more caring but it seems to have meant a good life for her later on.
