Are cats telepathic?

The other day my cat, Lilo, was due to go to the vet for her annual booster. I have learned from experience not to get the travel box out of the garage until the very last minute, because she associates it with terror and freaks out. But somehow Lilo must've worked out that something was afoot because she went under my bed and managed to wedge herself between a couple of suitcases and a heap of old shoes. How do cats know? I sometimes wonder if Lilo can read my thoughts. My daughter and I even wondered if she understood human language and had heard us chatting about the vet trip beforehand. Have you any experience of pets seemingly reading your thoughts?

I have birds now and haven't had to take them to the vet, thank goodness. But I've had cats and YES they always know! Never had a cat that didn't run for cover on vet day. It's downright uncanny.

I have often wondered why this is. I think that perhaps I get a bit stressed on vet day (because I know the cats won't enjoy it) so therefore I may be subtly giving off stress vibes which the cat somehow picks up on.

This kind of phenomenon is really very strange, and it's also true for my pet dog.

@transcendent @5thHouse I think it depends on the situation. I think it might be in this case that animals are far more attentive than we give them credit for. My dog for example will growl and bark at me every night because he knows I have to walk him.(I'm not his favorite walker you see...) @5thHouse I think in that's the case with your cat. She might be observant. However animals also seem to be able to see supernatural stuff like ghosts, and since in some believes the soul is the source of one's aura, your cat might be able to pick up on that and the intent your aura gives off. :p

Lilo knew. So could Lilo have heard you mention that you were taking her to the vets for a booster? I think that cats can actually understand human language. These two we adopted can. And how they must have laughed when I suggested that they move off the bed so mummy and daddy...... .

Maybe you bring her to vet more often that she started to be familiar with the schedule. Is it hard to get her when she runs for cover?

I think they are in tune with their masters like dogs are- and know from your electricity but not sure about being telepathic!

Oh yes, i believe that cats can understand human language by using their instinct. I often notice that some of my cats seem to be able to read my mind.

Not me, but I wouldn't be surprised if animals read us like a book.

I don't know if this is true, but I have heard that cats can understand humans, yet they don't care to show us that they understand. My cats seem to know when I'm going to give them flea medicine or a bath, so I think this idea is somewhat believable.
