Pro-life or pro-choice?

I read an article where an 11-year-old girl was raped. She became pregnant and the court ordered her to keep the baby since it was "the right of the unborn baby to live." I think it's so terrible because the child was raped. She's physically, mentally, emotionally in trauma and cannot have and take care of a baby when she is a child herself. In general too, I am pro-choice. I believe women should be allowed to choose whether a want a baby or not. What is your stance on this?

I think that every woman has the right to decide if she really wants to keep a baby or not. This child is not a wanted child, he is the consequence of a rape and this girl, looking at her baby will forever remember that terrible moment. This is horrible.

Yes. Plus she is only 11 years old. She can barely understand things happening to her.

I'm pro life. In cases like this it would be good if she were given three options with one of them being adoption.

@sakinasaifee18 That would be for a doctor to decide. It's a terrible situation. Has the rapist been caught and punished? Will he be punished?

She'll 11 years old. I don't think she can safely deliver a baby at this age.

It is really a very difficult decision especially if one believes in the right of everyone to be born.

But don't you think the mother should be able to decide if she wants to have the baby or not? Her life is tied to the baby's.

I'd say for any girl getting pregnant through rape of any kind, she needs to decide whether to keep or drop the child. unless abortion brings complication to her own life clinically, she should be free to abort.

Exactly. Poor girl is already traumatised enough.

Oh, it's hard to decide about it because I believe that abortion is a sin.

So many things are 'sin', don't we all do them regardless? Most of us commit the seven sins even knowingly at times, and here we are talking about a poor 11 year old girl. I don't believe 'sin' should be seen here.

I'm totally pro choice but would like adoption to be considered more...not in this case though. Also I'd like the time limits on terminations reduced as here in the UK it is legal (although unusual) to terminate up to 24 weeks. Nowadays a 24 week baby can survive with medical intervention so I think that that is not a good time limit to beable to have an abortion up to. I think it should be lowered to at least 20 weeks and maybe lower still.

I agree. Here in India abortions are legal till 20 weeks. After that too many complications can arise.

@sakinasaifee18 20 weeks is where I'd like the UK to go...after that I'm not too much in agreement.

A 11 years old is too young to give a birth to a baby or to take care of him. I am not sure what was the reason of passing such a judgement.

The poor girl has already undergone the trauma of being raped. That is a terrible thing to go through. It is a terrible thing to be a rape victim. I don't see the benefit of her then murdering her child. That is another thing that she can never change. Her rapist should be punished, not the baby.

Like you, I am pro-choice. I feel as though women should have the right to choose. This girl is still a child, and I feel as though she should have the right to chose. She is still a child, and I don't feel that she is in a position to go through this. This is how I feel.

I would not want to choose a side on so many matters because everything is always a case to case basis so I would rather say that I choose life. I believe that the baby should be kept, but not necessarily by this 11 year old kid. Adoption is an optio, perhaps?
