Parenting a hardcore job

Parenting the new generation is really a tough job. Even though there are only one or two kids per household the expectations are really sky high.
During our generation there were many kids and we all got along with each other with ease. There was no or minimal ego clashes among us. Whatever parents provided were accepted without protest.
But the kids of new generation have new demand every other day. They expect a reward for any activity however small it may be.
And there is big ego with capital E. What one has the rest won't have. If some kid gets a new gadget the rest follows whether or not it benefits them.
Only time will tell where this would lead to.

I think parenting has never been easy, but I also think it depends how the parents raise the children.
As for getting the new gadget, I think we can tell the children not to just follow others and explain to them, they might understand why we do not fulfill every desire of theirs.
For me, my parents required me to listen to them, but I do not demand my children to listen to me totally. Perhaps this is why there might be some conflicts or arguments sometimes, as children nowadays are allowed to voice out their opinions.

My sister and I didn't get along very well--sometimes if there are more, it helps diffuse things, I imagine.
