Birds on a scale

These small birds are called Pine Siskins and the scale they are eating sunflower chips on is a very old one that once hung in an outdoor marketplace in Turkey. Anne brought it back when she returned to the US after teaching on US Air Force Bases there. It now hangs just outside our kitchen window.
As we listen to NPR and read the morning paper, we are entertained by the birds visiting this and our other feeders near the window.
It can be an addicting habit.

that sounds like a good way to spend the morning. we have not utilized our backyard at all this summer. not sure why i'm housesitting for our neighbors while they vacation... just checking on their birds, fish, and chickens... oh and a 40 year old turtle

Are there eggs from the chickens? I planted tomatoes and Anne grew lettuce and spinach and two volunteer chard plants came up, must have been mixed in with spinach seed.

I watch the birds out in my yard even though I don't have any feeders. Even though they don't do anything spectacular it is still interesting to watch them.
