Breaking one of my self-imposed rules and publishing a lengthy discussion. It's hard to keep a discourse about this particular subject be short and sweet. Have patience and allow me to babble and express my opinion. * * * There are several articles discussing this topic. Sharing a link to one of them. At another site they wanted readers to vote Yes or No. I didn't want to vote. But I do have something to say. For those who may not know, Guantánamo is a military prison / detention camp the news a while back because some of the American soldiers were treating the prisoners worse that dogs. It was a big brew ha ha. Some may recall that one of the hot ticket items on Obama's To Do List before he leaves office is to close this facility. From the budget aspect, I get what the president is saying. - Keeping that place open is expensive! From the point of view of the citizens who oppose the shut down, their concern is also legitimate. Uuhh ... where are we going to put the prisoners, many who are suspected terrorists? What??! Not in a jailhouse in my home town!! When it comes to politics, you have to compromise. You also have to carefully define "choice words". Consider the words used. "Close Guantánamo prison". Close is not the same word demolish! So what does this mean? It means: - At the present time, we don't need to pay money for utilities, personnel, etc. , just to stand guard over a handful prisoners. It's just not cost effective. Transfer them to a maximum security federal penitentiary in solitary confinement or something like that. That is practical and proper financial management of tax revenues. The building will still be there. The real estate isn't going anywhere. If ... in the future ... America ever needs to house ... God forbid we don't! ... but if we do need a place to cage a bunch of terrorists ... we'll just turn on the lights at Guantánamo again! Prison camps and/or detention centers should be used on an "as needed" basis. Come on America! What do you say?
President Barack Obama said Thursday he’s not ready to concede that the U.S. military prison at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, will remain open when he leaves office.

Closing the prison is the same thing as setting them free to roam the world.
