Working for nothing.

A couple of days ago, I went to my job as normal and when one of the managers counted my drawer I was surprisingly $100 short! This is exactly what I wanted to hear first thing right in the morning as my shift started. Not! I was and am still baffled by this.
I am no thief. I have been with my job for almost 10 years. I would never jeopardize that. Thankfully my higher up believes me too. But it still didn't matter. The money was gone so I had to pay. I wasn't going down without a fight though.
I demanded to look at the cameras. And so we did. Clearly the two $100 bills were in my drawer before I pulled it to count it. When I pulled it to count it, only one of the $100 bills was in there, but at that time I thought there was only one $100 bill. My manager swears up and down she had put two of them in there. Unfortunately the cameras suck so bad and are so blurry you can't really tell at what time it disappeared or from whom. So I ended up paying almost $70 worth of it even though I didn't do anything wrong! I worked for basically nothing that day. My higher up boss said I shouldn't have done that and it should be split three ways since two of the managers were also in my drawer.
I smell a thief BIG time, but can't prove it right now. I still find this totally unfair that I have to pay back money that got lost or taken just because the name was in my drawer. I got held completely responsible for it.
I hate being at a job where I don't feel I can trust the people I work with and the fact that I am losing money too and fear having to pay back money if my drawer comes up short!
I am in the process of filling out applications elsewhere and hopefully I hear back from somebody. I just can't take the lies and the stress anymore. I never had this problem at my other stores or with other managers. I would come to work, do my job, make some money and leave worry free. Nope not anymore.

@DanieGirl80587 I am glad that this is what that was finally decided. You cannot be held fully responsible of this.

@DanieGirl80587 I am glad of that. I was thinking they should split it three ways, too. They have to realize you have bills to pay. Everyone doe.

It is a tactic of some companies to suddenly say you are missing money in your drawer so that they don't have to promote you or give you higher pay. I'm not saying that is what happened but I have talked to people who had the same thing happen to them.

Well I'm not looking for a promotion (which would be management and higher pay) so I don't think that's it, but thank you for the thought.

@akalinus Me too. I can't afford it with my baby and the mortgage and bills. I work too hard to get ripped off like this.

That's what I was thinking too honestly. But I was afraid of losing my job, so I just gave some money...probably really stupid of me. But it's a job where they can fire me at will so.

Yes, you better find another job . It's difficult when you are so trustworthy yet someone is not when it comes to money .
Why , 3 of you share the same drawer of cash ?

That is normally how it worked at my other stores. It's not uncommon though for managers to be the thieves though sadly.

I'm hoping karma is real and whoever took it gets what they deserve. Sometimes bad things happen to good people I suppose.
